Last night, media and bloggers were invited to a preview of Hotel Istana KL’s Christmas Buffet Dinner at the hotel’s Taman Sari Brasserie. The food definitely had the Christmas theme as there were mince pies (and everything nice!) but the highlight for me were the various cakes and pastries that really made me wish Christmas was nearer.
The best offering in this buffer dinner has to be the Classic Butternut Squash Soup, it’s sweet, tasty, creamy, concentrated and so good that I had 3 full bowls and wanted a fourth bowl but by the time I got there for the fourth refill, the was nothing left! The best soup I’ve had all year is this. The Creamy Red Seafood Chowder could have tasted more of seafood, it was a bit lacking in more ways than one.
I might have said it before but I’ll say it again that I’m not a fan of turkey, it is among my least preferred meats because it’s hard to find turkey that isn’t a bit tough and dry. This turkey is fine in moderation but I don’t have that much of a fancy to it. It tastes quite all right with the cranberry sauce. However given that the turkey would probably have been out of the oven hours before the buffet started at 6.30pm, it’s inevitable that the meat may be slightly tough.
As far as appetisers and main courses are concerned, there are so many to choose from and it’d be impossible to try them all. My heart was willing but my stomach capacity was soon full. The Crusted Salmon Cutlet With Pomegranate Cous Cous And Maitre D’Hotel Butter was very popular as it was going, going, gone!
As appetising and presentable as the appetisers and main courses are, the best part of this Christmas buffet dinner for me is the dessert table which is laden with such beautiful and irresistible creations. You just want to take lots of photos of these cakes/pastries and not cut into any of them.
The best ones were the Tangerine Tarts, Peanut Pumpkin Roll and Berry Trifle Cheese Cake, all superb and exceptional. Just wished I had more room in my stomach. Makes me want to order an entire Peanut Pumpkin Roll or Berry trifle Cheese Cake for Christmas.
Hotel Istana KL’s Christmas Eve Buffet Dinner will be at the hotel’s Songket Lounge, priced at RM138 nett per adult. Guests will be entertained by the hotel’s Christmas Carolers from 8.00 pm to 9.00 pm on Christmas Eve. From 9.00 pm onwards, guests can continue to chill out with their favourite drinks and snacks while listening to the beat of the hotel’s live music entertainment from the in-house band.
On Christmas Day, indulge your palate with an extensive Buffet Hi-Tea at Taman Sari Brasserie for only RM90 nett per adult. There’s also the New Year’s Eve Buffet Dinner at Taman Sari Brasserie priced at RM138 nett per adult. After dinner on 31 December, guests can proceed to Songket Lounge where the countdown to the New Year will take place with the hotel’s in-house band and live DJ from 9.00 pm onwards. There is no cover charge.
On New Year’s Day, welcome 2019 at Taman Sari Brasserie with a Buffet Hi-Tea priced at RM90 nett per adult.
