Sumptuous Weekend Hi-Tea At Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur City Centre

An array of sweet and savoury treats at Hotel Istana KL High Tea Buffet (available only weekends)

During the 90s, one of my favourite hang-outs on Saturdays after work (for those of you who remember we still had to work half day on Saturdays!) was Hotel Istana as their Taman Sari Cafe had one of the best high teas in town. The good news is they still have one of the best high teas in town and now it’s available from noon till 4.30 pm on weekends & public holidays so you can chat with friends and family for hours while dining on some sumptuous sweet and savoury food.

There’s a section where you can create your own sandwich, fillings include creamy tuna, roast beef, egg mayonnaise, smoked duck, roast chicken and vegetables. I don’t think I eat enough vegetables so I was happy to see an array of nicely arranged salads at this buffet ranging from Seafood Cocktail, Grilled Vegetables with Mushroom Salad, Greek Salad with Smoked Salmon to Potato Salad.

My favourite dish in this buffet was the Beef Ribs in Dark Soy Sauce. I had a few helpings of this as the thick sauce is too yummy, goes so well with bread too if you want to skip rice. I can tell they use very good dark soy sauce here.

With all these appetisers and main course dishes, you have to leave room for dessert and the cakes and pastries taste as good as they look.
