Penang Style Chee Cheong Fun At Spicy Shack

20220113_093059As I spent my year-end school holidays in Penang during my primary and secondary school days many years ago, I grew to love Penang’s prawn paste chee cheong fun. Most of the chee cheong fun in KL is of the curry sauce or sweet sauce/chilli sauce version. I used to go to a cofee shop in SS@, PJ for the prawn paste version but that cofee shop closed about 5 years ago and ever since then, I have not had my prawn paste chee cheong fun.

Then 2 weeks ago, I parked my car along the main road (Jalan Perisa) of Taman Bukit Indah, a stone’s throw (okay, not that near actually) from where I live and on a banner was prawn paste chee cheong fun. The eatery is Spicy Shack, literally a shack with about 5 small tables. This eatery serves Penang fare like prawn mee and assam laksa (not my favourite as I prefer curry laksa).

There are 3 sizes of Penang chee cheong fun, S RM4, M RM5 and L RM6. The prawn paste drenches the chee cheong fun with a bit of chilli sauce at the svery nice. ide. I ordered L as I have been deprived of my favourite Penang food for so many years. I am happy to say that it didn’t disappoint, the rice noodles are smooth and the prawn paste fragrant, absolutely delicious.

Since then, I have visited Spicy Shack many times at various times of the day, for breakfast, lunch and tea. They are open every day from 9am – 7pm except Sundays. Desserts such as ice kacang and cendol are also available there. The owner is friendly and very nice. Shall be heading there when they re-open after the CNY holidays.
