The Yellow Magnum Mascara

As a kid, I associated the color yellow with Sesame Street’s Big Bird. As an adult, yellow will forever be associated with Maybelline’s Magnum Volum’ Express Super Film Mascara or the Magnum for short.

Looking at the thickness of the outer casing, I knew the brush would be fat and big. Apparently, the brush is twice as large as regular brushes and it is slightly curved to coat the entire fringe of lashes in one swoop.

According to the instructions, one is supposed to use the spoon side of the brush to fan out the lashes and then turn the brush around to lift lashes and to avoid any clumps.

It’s volumising for certain though not dramatically so. After the 5th coat, it began to clump a little so I couldn’t apply more coats. It isn’t as clumpy as the previous Maybelline mascara I tried, the Volume Express Cat Eyes Hello Kitty Mascara.

As for smudge-proof, not too bad compared with other mascaras tried and disapproved of. It didn’t give me the serious panda eye look but there was a hint of a smudge after a few hours of wear.

Yes, it can be removed with warm water or a water-based eye makeup remover BUT what I really didn’t like about it was the fact that it came off in flakes (see pic below) which transferred to my undereye area and cheeks and that was messy.

Flakes

Perhaps it’s due to the new collagen formula or maybe it’s just me. So while I like the effect of fuller lashes to a certain extent, I’d have liked to have been able to remove the mascara more effortlessly.

The mascara retails at RM35.90.
