Everything Seems So Convenient In The Korean Femme Fatale Drama Eve

eve_south_korean_tv_seriesEver since I read about “Eve”, the ongoing Korean drama starring Seo Yea-Ji, I was waiting for it to air on 1st June. I thought Seo Yea-Ji was excellent in “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” so I was looking forward to her latest drama. In this drama, she plays the ultimate femme fatale and with her looks and elegance, she certainly pulls it off with panache.

Over 10 years ago, her character, Lee La-El witnessed her father being beaten to death. In Episode 1, we see her father being beaten to a pulp but we don’t know the exact details why. The young Lee La-El obtains a scholarship to study in the U.S. and when she returns, she is doing the tango like a professional at her daughter’s school.

Lee La-El has been planning vengeance for years on all the people responsible for wrecking her family. She sets her sights on Kang Yoon-Kyum who has a seriously snobbish wife, Han So-Ra who is the daughter of one of the men Lee La-El is going to take revenge on. Kang Yoon-Kyum is a successful and obviously extremely rich businessman. From the first moment he sets eyes on Lee La-El doing the tango, he seems mesmerised by her.

In Episode 1, we see that Lee La-El has a daughter AND husband. They even make out in her performer’s dressing room at the school, all so that Kang Yoon-Kyum can see how hot she is (she is the perfect seductress after all). Han So-Ra is so lofty that she even tells her daughter that she will pick her friends and not to be friends with anyone beneath her status.

So the scene is set for Lee La-El to draw Kang Yoon-Kyum into her web but it’s not yet explained what Kang Yoon-Kyum had to do with Lee La-El’s father’s death. It just seems so convenient for Lee La-El to orchestrate being a performer at her daughter’s school and making eyes at Kang Yoon-Kyum who has no idea of the destruction Lee La-El will bring on him.
