Guardian Malaysia launched its annual health and beauty campaign to help consumers stay healthy and look good throughout Ramadhan and the Hari Raya festival that follows. Back with the theme “Sihat dan Anggun Sempena Aidilfitri” this year, the campaign continue to raise awareness and educate customers on how they can maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle during the month-long fast, culminating in the festive celebrations. Guardian has identified and offers a wide range of health, beauty and wellness products that would meet customers’ needs.

At a media preview to kick start this campaign, members of the media were treated to a variety of activities including a health check by Guardian Pharmacists and a dialogue with Guardian’s Health Advisor Siti Aishah Mohd Yunos; skin care and make-up styles and trends for this season by Guardian’s Beauty Advisor Evelyn Tay; hair care by Head of A Cut Above Academy Peter Wong and deliciously healthy cooking for Ramadhan and Raya by celebrity chef Anis Nabilah.

Siti Aishah Mohd Yunos who has a degree in food science presented “Changes During Fasting”. During the fasting month, glucose and cholesterol levels may be doubled. She recommends dishes such as Nasi Kerabu Ayam Bakar. Caffeine flushes out water from the body so if you drink coffee today, you will feel dehydrated the next day. Take healthy supplements and avoid teas as well as they can contain caffeine. For breakfast, take oats as you will feel less hungry throughout the day.

Evelyn Tay spoke on the classification of skin types. It’s important to know  your skin type as buying the wrong skincare can worsen your skin condition. Instead of just having freckles, you might get pigmentation. When skin starts to mature, skin will become more dry. No adults will have normal skin with no pores and few imperfections and translucent skin. Those with combination skin should use 2 types of products. Make sure skincare is appropriate to your skin type.

Two lucky members of the media were given makeovers by Guardian make-up artists. Meanwhile, Evelyn Tay gave make-up ips including what types of foundation suit different skin types.

Peter Yap talked about scalp and hair care. Those with dry scalps have small white flakes on the scalp caused by severe dehydration, over-shedding of the scalp, poor quality of shampoo and over washing of hair. Dandruff are larger, greasy or waxy flakes. They may stick on your brush or stick on your hair or scalp. It causes scalp itchiness, smells horrible and may be contagious. Dandruff can be caused by lather, rinse, repeat or using a comb of a person who has dandruff.

Hair loss can be caused by diet (too much oily food), stress, medication, chemical services such as perming, coloring and hormonal changes. It’s normal for hair to fall 80-100 strands a day. To prevent hair loss, massage the scalp for better blood circulation. Use hair serum as it will absorb excess sebum that can clog up hair follicles.
