Switching On Clarity With Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective™ Range

One of the best things about living in Asia is that we are spoilt for choice when it comes to whitening skincare. It’s not that whitening ranges aren’t available in Western countries where I believe they are gaining popularity since the Asian population there is ever increasing and in fact, Caucasians are also getting more aware of the need for preventing/delaying the formation of melanin but in Malaysia and neighbouring countries, we seem to have innumerable choices to help us decrease our dark spots, even our skin tone, improve skin clarity and luminosity and so on.

Kiehl’s launched their  Clearly Corrective™ range recently which replaces the Ultimate White range. This range has been specifically developed for their Asian customers. The only product in the range available worldwide is the star product in the range – the Dark Spots Solution. The rest of the products in the range are Asia exclusives.

Before I go into detail about each product, I have mentioned in my earlier post on the range but will reiterate here that Kiehl’s is the first company in Asia to bring the formula’s key ingredient, Activated C, the latest generation Vitamin C derivative on the market, within a full product range. Other key ingredients are White Birch Extract for hydration and Peony Extract which acts as an antioxidant to slow down melanin from coming to skin surface.

How to achieve flawless, luminous skin? Kiehl’s has a 5 step regimen for Asian customers to achieve just such skin clarity. All products have been used within a 3 week period with some products finishing sooner than others as they were in sample sizes while the Dark Spot Solution has yet to be finished:-

Step 1

Purifying Foaming Cleanser 150ml/RM100

To be used after make-up removal, this creamy cleanser foams up nicely especially when I use a Facial Wash Net. I like the scent of this cleanser, same lavender scent is prevalent in other products in this range. Does not dry out my skin, feels very gentle and soft.

Skin Brightening Exfoliator 125ml/RM115

The Skin Brightening Exfoliator is a lot finer than its predecessor, Ultimate White Surface Brightening Exfoliator. The latter was like a paste being quite thick but the Skin Brightening Exfoliator has smaller granules and feels slightly less harsh. I like the Skin Brightening Exfoliator just as much as the Surface Brightening Exfoliator, perhaps even more because it doesn’t feel so thick and has that Clearly Corrective™ signature lavender scent.

Step 2

Clarity-Activating Toner 250ml/RM125
Recommended to be applied by patting on to cheeks and focusing on forehead and chin areas. Pat in a circular motion for better absorption or pour toner on to a cotton pad and apply in sweeping motions. Note that the toner contains alcohol (although it doesn’t feel like there is any) as does the Dark Spot Solution. It also contains Vitamin E (as does the Dark Spot Solution & Emulsion) to help defend against free radical damage.

Step 3

Dark Spot Solution 30ml/RM200

I have never seen a serum as clear as this. There is something very pure about this product from the packaging to the look and feel. I love the fact that it comes in a glass bottle and the dropper attached to the cap is also glass which gives the impression that the product is more expensive than it actually is. If I had to hazard a guess as to the price, I’d have said it was over RM200 but it isn’t which makes it one of the more reasonably priced non-drugstore whitening serums around. I like the Dark Spot Solution even more than Shiseido’s White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum+. In terms of packaging, texture, scent and price, it beats the White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum+ hands down.

One drop of the Dark Spot Solution is all I need for my entire face. There is everything to love about this product as it has a calming and relaxing scent as well as being so easily absorbed by my skin. I have been using this twice a day for almost 4 weeks and the results…..well, please see the images below.

It would be stretching the truth to say that my dark spots have reduced in size and intensity dramatically but there is definitely an improvement in skin clarity. My skin looks brighter and more even toned.

Best of all, ever since I started using the Dark Spot Solution, I have not had any break-outs (touch wood!). I love the lightness of the serum and how it feels hydrating even before I’ve applied moisturiser. This is one of the best whitening serums I have used in a long time. Once opened, it’s recommended that the product be used within 45 days. I am about half-way through my bottle.

Step 4

Hydrating Moisture Emulsion 50ml/RM175

This is a light moisturiser which I believe would and should be suitable for all skin types. I dislike thick and heavy moisturisers. This one is neither thick nor heavy, it’s just the thing to complement the rest of the products in the range.

Step 5

Ultra Light UV Defense SPF 50 PA+++  30ml/RM140

Always use sunscreen whether you’re using whitening skincare or not otherwise we won’t be able to control those dark spots from forming. Review on this product will be up in April and there will be a giveaway then so do keep your eyes peeled for that post!

Overall Comments

In the past decade or so, I can safely say that I have tried many whitening skincare products but have not been thoroughly impressed by many. Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective™ Range is one of the few that will remain memorable for all the right reasons. The range combines whitening with hydration. Out of all the products in the range, I would most likely purchase the Skin Brightening Exfoliator and of course, the Dark Spot Solution has it has given my skin much needed clarity and there have been no acne problems ever since I started using it.

Note :  Clearly Corrective™ Dark Spot Solution and samples of the other products have been provided by Kiehl’s Malaysia.
