Fans of Clinique’s make-up would probably have heard of their iconic Almost Lipstick, Black Honey. This lip colour made its debut in the US in 1971 and in 1989, it was launched as an Almost Lipstick. It’s a shade that works on every skin tone because of a precise blend of red, blue, orange and yellow pigments in a sheer base.

This month sees the introduction of 6 new sheer shades of Almost Lipstick inspired by Black Honey. There’s red, pink, violet and pink hues. Mine is in Lovely Honey which is pink based. It subtly enhances the natural colour of my lips. Actually, they have been formulated to allow the natural lip colour to come through so that each person has a custom-fit shade unique to them.

The Almost Lipstick is like a tinted lip balm as it’s very moisturising. These lipsticks are perfect for ladies who just want a hint of colour on their lips or for those who prefer natural looking lip colours. Staying power is pretty average, it doesn’t get me through a drink, never mind a meal. Without touching food or water, it’d last a couple of hours without fading much.

Because of the sheerness of the colours and the way they custom-fit to each person, you can be adventurous with the colours. You can try different colour families without the concern that they’d be too intense. As Jenna Menard, Clinique Global Colour Artist put it, “Almost Lipstick’s ultra sheer formula is a great way to experiment with different colours and introduce yourself to shades you’ve never worn before. Sometimes women are hesitant to try a pink, red or nude lip – Almost Lipstick can be the perfect stepping stone into other colour families”.

Clinique Almost Lipstick is RMM66.
