L to R – Cornflower Floral Water, Avocado Oil & Eye Contour Gel

One of the biggest skin concerns for many women would be their eye area – dark eye circles, puffy eye bags, fine lines and wrinkles. A lot of us don’t get sufficient sleep because of work and family issues and this contributes to those issues. Melvita has 3 eyecare products for your D-I-Y eye spa.

Why do we need special eyecare products in the first place? The skin around the eyes is the thinnest part of the body skin. Its thickness is two times thinner than other facial skin areas and is the most fragile and sensitive. So these are the 3 simple steps from Melvita to ensure that eyes receive optimum care.

Step 1

Place the Eye Spa Eye Mask in fridge to make it cold. Soak cotton pad with Cornflower Floral water (make sure pads are quite wet) as an emergency rescue eye mask and place it on both eyes. Then put on the eye mask. The ice cool sensation helps rejuvenate, reduce puffiness and brighten the eyes.

This is my favourite part of the eye spa because it feels so good to have a cool eye mask on especially when my eyes are feeling tired and puffy. This step really does help soothe and soften my eye area. The Cornflower Floral Water is the one Floral Water that is specifically for usage on the eye area as it helps to decongest. It is extracted by distillation of organic centaurea cyanus flowers.

The Cornflower Floral Water is 200ml/RM91 while the Eye Mask is available as a gift with purchase (please enquire at Melvita outlets).

Step 2

Many people would shirk at the thought of applying oil around the eye area as one would think it can cause milia seeds to form as well as cause clogged pores. Melvita’s Avocado Oil is a 100% plant vegetable oil which claims to be able to help blemished skin, relieve acne scars, increase collagen production, reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It contains vitamins A, B1 & B2, D and E, beta-carotene and minerals for firming and rejuvenating skin.

According to Melvita, organic avocado oil can be truly absorbed by the skin and its pure and mild texture provides best anti-aging effects to the eyes. Well, I have been using it almost daily at night for the past couple of weeks with no problems such as clogged pores or milia seeds cropping up but I can only speak for myself. I have dry skin after all with a particularly dry eye area.

As the oil is quite concentrated, I just need a drop. I rub it between my 4th fingers to warm it up before application and give my eye area a lymphatic massage as per the diagrams shown below. It gives a huge hydration boost to my undereye area, much more than any hydrating eye cream can. In doing so, fine lines are less obvious as it softens the lines.

I try to massage in the oil following the above steps as often as I can but I admit I haven’t been that diligent lately. I do think that it helps with reducing puffiness and dark circles since massage promotes blood circulation.

There is no greasy feeling with the avocado oil which absorbs easily into my skin. However, I have a problem with the bottle though as it leaks oil every time I press the pump. I have resorted to wrapping tissue paper tightly around the nozzle.

As skin on our neck is as fragile as our eye area, the avocado oil is also suitable for use on the neck. Massage it on the neck following the instructions in the diagrams below.

The avocado oil is 50ml/RM70.

Step 3

If you dislike heavy textured eye creams, check out multi-purpose Melvita’s Eye Contour Gel as it is very, very light. It’s specially targeted at 4 major eye problems – dark circles, eye bags, puffiness and fine lines. It has soothing properties of cornflower, chamomile and neroli floral waters to lighten dark circles, fine lines and eye bags. Centella, ginkgo biloba and buckwheat wax help to reduce swelling around the eyes. Apricot butter, jojoba oil and acacia help to soothe and tighten sagging skin around the eye contour while a complex of caffeine, willow and phospholipids smoothen and prevent fine lines.

Applying the Eye Contour Gel is the 3rd and final step of the Eye Spa. I wait for the avocado oil to settle into my skin before applying the Eye Contour Gel. Now this one has a tightening effect. I can feel the tightening sensation as if it is firming up my skin. I can’t say one way or another whether it is really doing so but it’s nice to feel as if it is working.

The Eye Contour Gel is 15ml/RM137.

Overall Comments

Of course you don’t have to get every single product reviewed here. It all depends on one’s budget and needs but I would start with the Cornflower Floral Water as it’s good for decongestion and cornflower is a well known ingredient for reducing inflammations which means it’s good for reducing puffy eyes/eye bags.

If you have dry skin around the eye area like me, then you’d probably benefit from the avocado oil as I find it ultra-hydrating and effective in smoothing fine lines. Besides, this one has anti-ageing properties and I am now at an age when I will hang on for dear life to any product that promises to delay the effects of ageing.

As for the Eye Contour Gel, I like it simply because I feel the tightening sensation upon application. There aren’t many organic eye gels with so many beneficial ingredients for the eye area on the market so this one is a keeper.
