Haritha with Glamour Daze model

MAC’s Holiday Collections are usually the biggest color collections of the year. The Glamour Daze Collection launched on 7th November consists of several parts and I am sure it’ll take anyone quite some time just to have a close look at the entire collection. Some of the products such as the Crushed Metallic Pigment and Lip Gloss sets are only going to be available later this month. The Glamour Daze Collection consists of the following:-

  • Glamour Daze : Holiday Color
  • Fabulousness : Holiday Eye Kits
  • Divine Desire : Exclusive Face Kits
  • All For Glamour : Holiday Face Kits
  • Primped Out : Holiday Lip, Eye & Brush Kits
  • Hang Up The Glamour : Hanging Travel Bag
  • Glam It Up : Viva Glam Holiday Kit

Before the official launch of the Collection, I interviewed MAC Senior Artist Haritha Shan regarding the products and her thoughts on the Holiday Season.

What is the general theme behind this year’s Holiday Collection?

This season, Glamour Daze gives every MAC fanatic out there a glamorous and luxurious feel. Bows represent happiness as they are on every gift box. Colors in this Collection are decadent, sinful and cheerful. Just one look and you’re hooked to it. Every woman deserves to feel glamorous.

What are the looks that can be created with the products from this Collection?

The Primped Out Eye Look Bags come with a duo eyeshadow palette, Powerpoint Eye Pencil, Opulash Mascara and a 275SE Medium Angled Shading Brush. This set is for all ages, all races, all sexes. Colors are well chosen for every skin type. Everyone can create a smoky eye look with the black, brown and plum shades in each palette. Use this to create 2 point makeup, i.e. darker shadow in crease and lighter shadow on eyelid.

This season, is the emphasis more on the lips or eyes?

There’s an equal balance on lips and eyes in the Glamour Daze Collection. If you choose to enhance eyes, keep lips pale but if you choose to keep eyes light, make lips bright.

In this Collection, there are some new metallic coloured Fluidlines. How does one go about creating a look for these products?

They add glitter on dark eyeshadows and if you use MAC’s Blacktrack Fluidline as a base, once it dries, add the coloured Fluidlines on top of Blacktrack. Anything metallic works well with a darker base.

The Extra Dimension eyeshadows and Skinfinishes are making a comeback in this Collection. Are these Skinfinishes more suitable for women of color and skin types?

They can be used on any skin tone/type. The model has combination-oily skin. The product gives a luminous effect with not much glitter or pigment. It has a creamy texture so it sets into the skin. Apply it on high panels of the face after foundation and powder and before blush.

How can those with lighter skin tones and oily skin go about using the Skinfinishes without overdoing it?

Use brush 168 to control, it’s an angled brush so pickup will be easier. If you use a powder brush, pickup is more.

How can the different colors of the Extra Dimension eyeshadows be combined to create looks?

Don’t be afraid to mix them up, e.g. blue (Divine Blue) with purple (Stylishly Merry). For something more sophisticated, combine a pale  (Ready To Party) with a dark shadow (Tall, Dark & Handsome).

What brush would you recommend for picking up the Extra Dimension eyeshadows?

239 which is tapered as it picks up really well. Good for intensity and application. It presses in the shadow beautifully.

How does one go about applying the Crushed Metallic Pigments in the Guilty Passions part of the Collection so that there is minimum fall out? What brush should be used for application?

Wet a 217 blending brush with Fix +. Wet pigments adhere better. When the pigments are dry, the particles are lighter and therefore less intense.

What are your must-haves from this Collection and why?

The Eye & Face Kits as with these 2 Kits, you have everything you need for a complete look. The Face Kit can be used for touch-ups.

Are you looking forward to the year-end holidays?

I love it because I get to clear my annual leave. December’s a fun and exciting month for me because I get to plan my son’s birthday.

Do you have a resolution for 2013?

I’d like to lose weight so I can always look glamourous.
