Duochrome Pigments Compared

It isn’t easy to work with pigments because applying them generally takes longer than powder eye shadows but the right pigment shade can be a lot more striking than powder eye shadows especially duochrome pigments as you don’t have to apply another shade to get 2 shades. My recently acquired Inglot AMC Pure Pigment Eye Shadow 84 is a duochrome bronze-gold-green which at first swatch, I thought looked like MAC’s Old Gold Pigment but the two are quite different as you will see from the images below.

When it comes to packaging, I prefer Inglot’s because it’s so much easier to dip my finger or brush into the low tub than MAC’s container opening. Both shades have a duochrome effect with a metallic sheen. MAC’s Old Gold looks nicer and more striking when I swatched it on my hand but when applied on the eyelids, it’s the reverse, i.e. Inglot’s Pigment 84 has a more golden and metallic effect. I prefer Inglot’s Pigment 84 to Old Gold simply because it has a more duochrome look and I don’t need to apply another shade as it already looks like I am wearing 2 different shades.

Inglot’s Pigments may appear to be cheaper at RM62/2g while MAC’s are RM82/4.5g but when you do the maths, Inglot’s is RM31 per 1g while MAC’s is RM18.20 per 1g. Interestingly, if you purchased them in USA, they are USD14 and USD21 respectively. Going at a conversion rate of 4, Inglot’s should be RM56 at most and MAC’s would be RM84.
