Signature International Berhad (“Signature”) today unveiled a first-of-its-kind corporate-led 2-in-1 Dual Food Distribution Kitchen & Empowerment Centre in partnership with Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK), transforming the organisation’s Jalan Imbi Centre into a purpose-built facility that combines food distribution with community empowerment.

The initiative reflects Signature’s belief that businesses can create greater social impact by applying the expertise they have spent years developing. For Signature, whose business has centred on creating functional living spaces for more than three decades, the project presented an opportunity to contribute its design, manufacturing, installation and project management capabilities in support of Kechara Soup Kitchen’s evolving needs.

Undertaken through Signature Cares, the Group’s long-term corporate responsibility platform, the initiative extends Signature’s expertise beyond the home and into the community. Working closely with KSK, the company reimagined the Jalan Imbi centre around the organisation’s operational requirements while creating a space capable of supporting its future empowerment programmes.

For nearly two decades, Kechara Soup Kitchen’s Jalan Imbi centre has served as one of the organisation’s key community hubs, providing meals, welfare assistance and a place of hope for individuals and families facing hardship. As its outreach expanded, so too did the need for a facility capable of supporting both efficient food distribution and programmes that equip beneficiaries with practical skills for greater self-reliance.

Drawing on more than 30 years of experience as Malaysia’s leading Total Home & Living Solutions provider, Signature completely redesigned and upgraded the centre to improve workflow, functionality and the experience of volunteers, staff and beneficiaries.

At the heart of the revitalisation is the 2-in-1 Dual Food Distribution Kitchen & Empowerment Centre, an innovative concept that enables the same purpose-built space to perform two complementary functions. During daily operations, it supports the efficient preparation and distribution of meals to underserved communities. Beyond meal services, the space transforms into an empowerment centre where cooking, baking and other skills development programmes provide beneficiaries with practical capabilities, greater confidence and pathways towards long-term independence.

The flexible design allows KSK to maximise the use of a single facility throughout the day, supporting immediate community needs while creating opportunities for longer-term empowerment programmes within the same space.

Signature Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lau Kock Sang, said the project demonstrates how businesses can create meaningful change by applying what they know best.

“When we first visited Kechara Soup Kitchen’s Jalan Imbi centre, we saw an organisation that had been serving vulnerable Malaysians with unwavering dedication over 20 years. The question before us was never whether we should help, but how we could contribute in the most meaningful way using the expertise we have built over more than three decades.

“That belief sits at the heart of Signature Cares. Every business has capabilities that extend beyond its products or services. When those capabilities are applied to genuine community needs, they can create lasting value that goes far beyond a single project,” he said.

Kechara Soup Kitchen General Manager Mr Justin Cheah Kok Leong, said the revitalised facility represents an important milestone in the organisation’s continued efforts to serve vulnerable communities.

“This revitalised centre will allow us to prepare and distribute meals more efficiently while creating a dedicated environment for programmes that help beneficiaries build practical skills and confidence. It gives us greater flexibility to support immediate needs while investing in longer-term empowerment,” he added.

Signatorians also came together to contribute essential dry food items based on Kechara Soup Kitchen’s requested needs list as part of Signature’s Food Bank Donation Initiative. The collected items will be presented to Kechara Soup Kitchen to support its ongoing efforts in providing assistance to vulnerable communities.

The collaboration marks the beginning of a longer-term partnership between Signature and Kechara Soup Kitchen, with both organisations exploring future volunteer initiatives, community engagement activities and empowerment programmes under Signature Cares.
