This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China. To commemorate this significant milestone, Malaysia Basketball Association (MABA) will host a unique international basketball invitational tournament from October 23 to 27, 2024 at the MABA Indoor Stadium. This event is not just a basketball spectacle but also a symbol of the deep friendship between Malaysia and China.

Organizing Chairman, Mr. Chey That Woon said, “For this tournament, we are honored to have four excellent teams from China: Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Macau, Northwestern Polytechnical University from Shaanxi, and the Fujian Youth Team. They represent the basketball prowess of various regions of China. On the Malaysian side, four elite teams will compete, showcasing our homegrown talent: Sunrise Youngsters, NX Matrix Deers, Johor Southern Tigers, and Putrajaya Parkcity Heat. This invitational tournament also serves as an excellent preparation platform for Malaysian clubs ahead of the year-end Major Basketball League (MBL).”

“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the organizers: The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) and the Malaysia-China Friendship Association. Your continued efforts in promoting friendly cooperation between Malaysia and China, especially in the fields of culture, economy and sports, are deeply appreciated. I also thank the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia for their unwavering support, highlighting the government’s commitment to fostering strong bilateral relations.”

Mr. Chey added, “I would also like to express my gratitude to our main sponsor, MATRIX, and other sponsors: MILO, MOLTEN, Li Ning, Spritzer and MJ Health. Your generous contributions have laid a solid foundation for the successful organization of this event. To our media friends, whether in broadcasting, print, or digital, and our official media partners, MY FM, MELODY, and GOXUAN, your dedicated promotion and support have greatly helped in popularizing basketball.”

This international basketball invitational tournament also serves as a significant platform for promoting cultural and sports exchanges between the peoples of Malaysia and China. Through this dynamic and passionate sport, the youth of both nations will have the opportunity to hone their skills on the court and deepen their understanding of each other. MABA looks forward to further enhancing bilateral ties in sports and culture through this event.

In addition to the exciting basketball matches, MABA has organized a series of cultural performances during the tournament, aiming to deepen the interaction and understanding between the people of our two countries through diverse cultural exchanges.

While this tournament will be broadcast live, Mr. Chey sincerely invites everyone to attend the matches in person to experience the thrilling atmosphere firsthand and cheer for the players. The ticket prices are very affordable, with the first three days of preliminary matches costing only RM10 per day, allowing you to watch all four games of the day. For the semifinals and finals, tickets are RM20 per day, also covering four games. Additionally, a tournament pass, which includes a free T-shirt, is available for just RM70, allowing you to attend all five days of the tournament.
