Uçhisar Castle in Cappadocia, Turkey looks like a formidable rock castle and that is exactly what it is as it is carved out from a rock formation and is 60-metres high. It is massive and can be seen from quite a distance. We didn’t go near it, not near enough to visit, that is to say. We just stopped somewhere below it for a photo opportunity. I guess we didn’t have time to actually visit it.

The castle dates back to Byzantine times and visitors can climb up a flight of steep stairs to the top for a panoramic view of the surrounding area. The castle looks magnificent, and it must be a great experience to explore its rooms and underground tunnels. Wish we could have been able to stop nearer for a better look at what was once home to over 1,000 people.
