Beauty Rules At Too Cool For School

Too Cool For School opened its doors in Malaysia in January this year and it really is a beauty products shop that looks different from anything we’ve ever seen here. It looks more like an arts supplies shop than a shop selling skincare and makeup. Everything you see in the shop is imported from Korea, every single piece of decoration and even the lamps.

The shop is spacious and conveniently located smack in the middle of the Telawi area in Bangsar. It gives me an excuse to visit Bangsar more often! There are so many products there that a first-timer visitor, especially beauty addicts would need more than half an hour to take everything in.

Like me, you might have thought Too Cool For School meant literally too cool to go to school as in playing truant but “school” here actually means “school of fish” meaning Too Cool For School (the brand) is the coolest among a group. Their 3 concepts are cool, style and fun. I think their concepts have been successfully incorporated into the design of the shop interior.

Some of the designs of the brand are inspired by a famous British illustrator, Anke Weckmann who configured the brand as a beauty and lifestyle product. The target market of the brand are middle/college/high school students and working adults. When you look at the products, you will understand why they appeal to the young and most probably the young-at-heart. Even the boxes for the products look like a lot of thought has been given to the design.

Dinoplatz Escalator Mascara RM104.50

One of the brand’s bestsellers is the Dinoplatz Escalator Mascara. There is a dial on the mascara which can be adjusted to lengthen the applicator wand depending on how much volume/length you desire. The design of the box has an illustration of a skyscraper, looks a bit like the Empire State Building. Maybe they could do a limited-edition illustration of our own Petronas Twin Towers?

Dinoplatz Eye Shadow on Flatiron RM58.90

These reminded me of bareMinerals Prime Time Shadows. Although there are only 3 shades available here, all 3 are extremely wearable and have universal appeal.

Play Cheek Angel Blusher RM69.90

Play Cheek Angel Blusher comes in 3 shades. A brush is included with each blush.

Dinoplatz High Line RM65.90

 My favourite products in the whole shop! Beautiful colours and they are liners which can double up as shadows.

An interesting product is the Eye Make-Up Pencil Eraser. Say you have a smudge on the undereye area (happens to me everyday) and instead of using cotton buds to clean up, you can use this dual-ended Pencil Eraser. Firstly, rub the white pencil on to the smudge and secondly, rub the rubber tip on to the stain. Smudge disappears in a few seconds.
