Tracking Down Pearl Of The Orient

As a wannabe tea connoisseur, I am always on the look-out for fine teas so when I chanced upon the Gryphon® tea range at Pacific Coffee and had a cup of Pearl of the Orient (Jasmine Dragon Pearl Green Tea With Rose), I was determined to find out which outlet sold these teas in boxes. After all, I couldn’t be paying more than RM8 each time I had a hankering for this particular tea.

I found out that the Gryphon® Tea Company was based in Singapore and is available at Cold Storage there but not here. In Malaysia, it’s only sold in ETC located at Lot  No 160 1st Floor, The Curve Shopping Mall (Tel: 03-77287289) and Lot No T107 3rd Floor, Bangsar Shopping Centre (Tel: 03-20961078). The distributor of Gryphon Tea in Malaysia is Coffex Coffee which also owns ETC.

So over the weekend, I paid a visit to ETC at The Curve which makes more sense than going to Bangsar Shopping Centre which is nearer to me because there is always more to see and do at The Curve. It wasn’t difficult to figure out where ETC was located. I had a feeling it was on the bridge where most of the eateries are and sure enough, it’s opposite Pappa Rich.

There I found Gryphon® Teas including my Pearl Of The Orient Tea though not the complete range is available. They also sell teas from another Singapore company, TWG which has such quaint names for their teas – Happy Birthday, Love Me, Grand Wedding & Tibetan Secret Tea (I am so curious as to what’s so secret about it!). TWG’s loose leaf teas are packed in very eye-catching containers.

There is also a good range of coffees of various roasts as well as beverage paraphernalia. The cups and crockery make lovely gifts. There are also flavoured liqueurs for adding into coffees. If you love coffee or tea, ETC is well stocked with your beverage of choice.
