Satisfied By Succulent Burgers @ Fat Boy’s

Having read some good reviews about Fat Boy’s @ Publika, I’d wanted to dine there for some time. I was at Publika for the Rodial Bloggers’ session and my initial choice of dining at the food court didn’t materialise due to some old lady cutting into my queue and being served first. I mean, what’s up with people cutting queue when there was hardly a queue? I was first in line and she was second, do people really need to barge in even if they are starving? Is that what she’d teach her grandkids if she had any? I know it’s age before beauty but this is ridiculous. Whenever someone who cuts my queue gets served first, I make a U-turn. The establishment doesn’t deserve my business. This lack of etiquette is almost as bad as people who gatecrash events and then accuse you of doing the same despicable thing just because they have an inferiority complex, think everyone else is as desperate as them and want to “cari pasal” with you when you have done nothing to provoke them but I digress.

Right, back to Fat Boy’s. There was already a crowd at Fat Boys when we arrived with some tables reserved. The chairs inside are all high chairs so I reckon they don’t expect their general clientele to be above a certain age and arthritic. If it’s still around in 20 years, I doubt I’d be able to clamber on to a chair without assistance.

The waiter passes us the menu and it’s the page where you assemble your own burger. It can turn out to be quite pricey if you add sun dried tomatoes and what-nots together with the dressing. Of course, with the assemble-your-own-burger choice, you can choose healthy alternatives such as wholemeal buns.

Flip over the menu and you will find the ready assembled burgers, much better since you don’t need to calculate how much your customised burger will cost you. I wanted to try the lamb burger but then Holy Caesar caught my eye because it has bacon and parmesan cheese on top of the chicken patty. Slobber! How many burger joints have bacon in their burgers? Not that many so I had to have that one. The waiter seemed to read my mind because he said “Holy Caesar?” even before I’d finished my sentence “I’ll have the…………..”. Could it be that Holy Caesar is a hit with the lady customers?

We ordered sky juice and I think that with some establishments, the waiters will conveniently forget your water because people who ordered soft drinks after you’ve ordered will get their drinks first and you only get yours after you have reminded the waiter.

The burgers may be pricier than your typical burger joint’s but they are of a very decent size and very appetising. Holy Caesar didn’t disappoint primarily because of the juicy, yummy bacon dripping with fat (you only live once is my motto) coupled with the parmesan cheese. However, the tender chicken patty was practically tasteless once I had a bite of the lamb patty in the Wimpy. The lamb was so tender and marvellous that I almost regretted ordering the Holy Caesar. Holy Caesar has (what else?) Caesar dressing while Wimpy has BBQ dressing.

Would I go back? It’s a no-brainer. It was the most satisfying burger meal I have had in a long time. I’m already making a mental note to have a burger with garlic aioli dressing on my next visit. Too bad I don’t visit Publika unless there is a good reason to. Wimpy is RM19 while Holy Caesar is RM18 + 10% service charge. Actually, the prices aren’t that much higher than Wendy’s or Carl’s Jr. One good reason for going to Fat Boy’s is their extensive menu and the endless possibilities with the customised burgers. These may be glorified burgers but this is one burger joint I don’t mind frequenting.

Fat Boy’s is located at Lot 30, Level G2, Publika, 1 Jalan Dutamas 1, Solaris Dutamas, 50480 KL (03-6206 1352).
