Managing Manes The Himalaya Way

Since purchasing Himalaya’s Anti-Hair Fall Shampoo and liking it quite a bit, my interest has been piqued by Himalaya haircare so it was timely when I received an invitation to attend Himalaya’s “My Hair My Mane Woe” (got to love the pun) workshop 2 weekends ago at A Cut Above Academy in Sunway Pyramid.

Thumbs up to Himalaya for operating on a “first come, first served” basis, meaning whichever blogger arrived first was given a one-to-one session with the Himalaya consultant for hair analysis. That’s very fair and it was nice to be at a workshop where whoever arrived punctually didn’t have to wait around till everyone arrived for the workshop to start. I was 3rd in line that day and it didn’t take long at all before it was my turn.

Juniper’s guest reviewer, Camie was the first to arrive so she was the first to have her hair analyzed. The machine analyses the condition of the scalp. I was expecting mine to be in a not-so-healthy condition since I do have dry scalp occasionally but things seemed to have improved.

When it came to my turn, I was informed that my scalp was in a very healthy condition and some of my hair follicles could grow as many as 3 hair strands. Apparently, unhealthy hair follicles can only grow one hair strand while healthy follicles can grow up to 4 hair strands. That was heartening news to me indeed. It always is when you aren’t that optimistic about the condition of your hair but then you’re proven wrong.

After the hair analysis, my shampoo and conditioner was customized to my needs. Each of us was given a set of haircare consisting of Revitalizing Hair Oil, Shampoo & Conditioner (customized to each person) and a tub of Protein Hair Cream which is a leave-in conditioner. My set of haircare is this lovely set:-

The nice people who attended to our hair that day were the young students/apprentices of A Cut Above Academy. My hair pampering session started with the application of the Revitalizing Hair Oil. The oil was rubbed directly on to my scalp first, I applied some on the back of my hands and it felt non-sticky and I like the scent. It is a herbal oil which has Thistle, Indian Gooseberry, Fenugreek, Chickpea and Bael Tree as the key ingredients. Apparently, this oil promotes hair growth and helps increase hair volume.

According to the instructions, the Hair Oil is to be massaged into scalp for 1-2 minutes but since this is a hair pampering session, I had my scalp vigorously massaged for 10 minutes. Next, it was on with the shampoo, my prescribed shampoo is the Protein Shampoo Gentle Daily Care which is a daily use shampoo for people with active lifestyles. The key ingredients in this are Chickpea, Amla & Black Myrobalan and Licorice.

It was bliss having a proper hair wash, a rare indulgence for me, if ever these days. The shampoo session was about 15 minutes, the scent of the Protein Shampoo was a lovely blend of the plants used. I love the scent of this shampoo so much that I am already thinking of replenishing once this bottle is used up. The key ingredients of the Protein Conditioner Softness & Shine used on me are China Rose & Lotus and Chickpea & Oat. It’s a gentle yet effective shampoo that doesn’t cause serious hair fall-out while giving my scalp and hair a thorough cleanse.

Back in the styling chair after the conditioner had been rinsed off, the Protein Hair Cream was applied on the ends of my hair. It’s for keeping hair in a healthy state and for preventing split ends. Just a little is required so this 175ml tub will go a long way. I could use this Hair Cream twice weekly for a month and I doubt I’d be scraping the surface. Love the scent of the Hair Cream just as much as the other products.

The end result? Well, after all the care and attention that went into my hair for almost 2 hours, my hair looked and felt better than it did before I stepped foot into the Academy. Of course, the fact that Himalaya haircare products were used had a lot to do with the effect.

Now that I have discovered the Academy’s services, I will be back. Their charges are reasonable (e.g. shampoo+cut+blowdry costs RM12, shampoo+blowdry costs RM8, rebonding RM160 and this is regardless of hair length) and products used will be the same as those used in A Cut Above Salon. They are open for appointments on weekdays from 11am-7pm) and closed on weekends and public holidays. Their contact number is 03-5635 6666.

Thanks to Himalaya and A Cut Above Academy for this much needed hair pampering session. Himalaya can turn anyone’s mane woe into their mane joy. I may not have scaled the Himalayas but when it comes to haircare, Himalaya is the summit.

Note : Himalaya’s Protein Shampoos are available in 2 sizes, 200ml (RM13.90) & 400ml (RM22.90), the Revitalizing Hair Oil (200ml) is RM22.90 and Protein Hair Cream (175ml) is RM22.90.
