What do I love about Givenchy? Their fragrances of course, especially Very Irresistible. Tonight Givenchy launched their latest fragrance, Dahlia Noir at Suria KLCC Concourse. This is the first fragrance developed under the creative direction of Riccardo Tisci. Dahlia Noir embodies a mysterious and atypical woman.

Dahlia Noir perpetuates the grand tradition of exceptional fragrances, harking back to L’interdit the very first fragrance created by Hubert de Givenchy in 1957. Dahlia Noir heralds a new phase in the history of Givenchy fragrances, a return to the roots of absolute luxury.

Dahlia Noir EDP

François Demachy, composer of olfactory creations, delved into Riccardo Tisci’s imagination and his family history as well to achieve this fantasised fragrance. This floral chypre fragrance is based on rose, iris and mimosa. Sandalwood and patchouli lend a woody depth blended with tonka bean.

With its spare architectural lines and perfectly balanced proportions, the bottle seems timeless, elegant yet pared-down. The austere solidity of the bottle and the lettering against a black-trimmed pink background on the box express the deliberately contradictory concept of minimalist opulence.

Adding to the mystery, the bottle never completely reveals its identity. Like a secret inscription, the name Dahlia Noir is discovered only underneath the cap on a silvery metal plaque and nowhere else. The black lacquered cap, highlighted with bevelled silver edges and the flesh-coloured fragrance itself are recurrent features within the Dahlia Noir Eau De Parfum range.

Dahlia Noir Eau De Toilette

Composed by François Demachy, who also created the Eau De Parfum, the Dahlia Noir Eau De Toilette expresses a more luminous, fruitier vision. The Eau De Toilette trail instantly releases zesty notes of mandarin, lemon and peach. The rose heart remains interlaced with woody accents. The rose “petal” is combined with spicy pink pepper.

Lastly, the Eau De Toilette contains carnal amber, sweet vanilla and almost mystical sandalwood. In composing this Eau De Toilette, François Demachy translated the blossoming of Fleur Fatale in full light.

The box and the bottle of the Eau De Toilette feature the same graphic and sober lines as the Eau De Parfum but in the Eau De Toilette, the box is a delicate, almost translucent pink and the black and silver lines have been inverted.

On the cap of the Eau De Toilette bottle, the black lacquer of the Eau De Parfum version is powder pink to match the perfume and the colour of the box. While the signature “Givenchy Paris” print on the Eau De Parfum bottle is black, the same is silver on the Eau De Toilette bottle.

I didn’t try the Eau De Toilette but I just sprayed on the Eau De Parfum and I love it. The design of the bottle is spartan but elegant. I like the fact that it isn’t overly feminine, it could almost pass off as a men’s fragrance bottle. The scent is just right for evenings but it isn’t too heavy for day wear. This is one Givenchy fragrance I will love as much as Very Irresistible.

The other products in the Dahlia Noir range are:-

Dahlia Noir Body Milk 200ml – RM175

Dahlia Noir Shower Gel 200ml – RM167
