I haven’t tried a skincare product with snail mucin in a long time but I note that this is quite a popular key ingredient in a lot of Korean skincare. I wonder what snails they use, the garden variety or more upmarket snails? Anyway, I have been trying out Cellnique Intensive Hydro Repair Elixir which has snail mucin and hyaluronic acid. It’s not slimy as one would imagine a product with snail mucin to be.
It’s very lightweight and fluid, absorbs into skin very quickly and boosts my skin’s moisture level. It’s a water based serum so I think I would be right to say it’d be ideal for oily skins too. Why snail slime though? It does sound rather gross but consider that snail slime is a complex mixture of proteoglycans, glycosaminoglycans, glycoprotein enzymes, hyaluronic acid, copper peptides, antimicrobial peptides and trace elements including copper, zinc and iron.

Snail extract is really popular in Korea and they have this ingredient in almost all of their products, I tried snail mask, snail toner, snail moisturizer and snail BB cream before and they are all very good! It is really good in assisting cell repair process. However, I can rarely see them in Malaysia, mainly because the snail extract is non-halal and is not suitable for Malaysia’s market.
Yeah, snail mucin has that repairing property so it is popular in Korean skincare. Hopefully no snails were harmed in the process!
