The Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) is set to revive the MCKK Premier 7s (P7s) Rugby Tournament after a two year hiatus. The 11th edition of the MCKK P7s Tournament is scheduled to be held over three days – from September 29 to October 1, 2023.

The Tournament, which will surely attract the attention of many rugby fans, will see fierce competition with the presence of international teams such as Japan and Indonesia to win the MCKK P7s championship crown.

The three-day competition will also see the return of champions from previous editions such as Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar (EC) Johor Bahru, Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI), as well as host MCKK. However, the presence of teams such as Royal Military College (MTD), SMK Victoria (VI) Kuala Lumpur and Sultan Alam Shah School (SAS) Putrajaya cannot be denied to be crowned champions.

In the 2020 edition, EC from Johor Bahru emerged champions for the first time after defeating the favourites Sekolah Sultan Tunku Mahkota Ismail (SSTMI) with a dramatic 15-12 result in the final. EC’s stylish victory enabled the team to lift the prestigious NJ Ryan trophy for the first time since the youth rugby tournament was introduced in the 2011 edition.

The MCKK P7s Championship Series is organized as a catalyst to improve the quality and level of rugby at the school level in addition to fostering the younger generation’s interest in rugby.

In addition to basically fostering sportsmanship and teamwork, rugby can also instill and build the values of sincerity and honesty among the youth of this country in preparation for the life of this millennium.

Since it was first organized in 2011, the MCKK P7s Tournament has featured rugby teams from every state in Malaysia as well as teams from overseas. The presence of rugby teams and supporters from all over Malaysia and also from abroad has successfully contributed to the improvement of the economy at the national level and also at the local level through the improvement and development of various tourism-related sectors especially in Kuala Kangsar and in the State of Perak in general.

The 11th MCKK P7s tournament will also take into account the importance of preserving the natural ecosystem where certain measures are used to preserve the environment throughout the three days of the competition. Among the measures that have been identified are reducing the use of plastic materials, the use of short-term materials and improving waste management practices.

The press conference was graced by the presence of all the official sponsors for the tournament, adding prestige and support to the event

It is evident that MCKK Premier 7s is not just a sporting event but its organization also aims to foster sportsmanship and camaraderie among all involved as well as inculcate a sense of responsibility towards the environment.

The organisation of the MCKK P7s Tournament for the 11th time in 2023 is set to inspire the young rugby players in Malaysia to highlight their respective talents while sports fans across the country will be excited with the return of the Tournament after a two year hiatus.

Inadvertently, the MCKK Premier 7s will enhance the tourism spotlight showcasing the beauty and attractions of Malaysia while Kuala Kangsar, the Royal Town of Perak, will be the primary focus of international and local visitors.
