“Teh Malaya” wins KL Signature Mocktail at Kuala Lumpur Big Kitchen Festival 2015

Teh Malaya - KL's Signature Mocktail

KL finally has a Signature Mocktail it can be proud of now aptly named “Teh Malaya”. This was announced at the closing of Kuala Lumpur Big Kitchen Festival 2015 on 31st May 2015 with Muhammad Rushdi picked as the winner of KL Signature Mocktail competition.

After much deliberation and keeping to the high standards of looking for that perfect Signature Mocktail that included searching for the right taste, flavour, presentation plus uniqueness to represent KL, four esteemed judges from the industry picked Muhammad Rushdi for his mocktail named “Teh Malaya”. The winner took home the prestigious Mayor’s trophy (exclusively designed by one of the festival partners, Christofle Paris, the world’s leading silversmith) plus Cash Prize of RM10,000 and gifts sponsored by Electrolux. The winning mocktail was truly a local concoction which is tea based infused with cinnamon and sweetened with pandan leaves. According to Muhammad Rushdi, besides being able to have the mocktail anytime of the day it also has its health benefits as it can reduce cholesterol and lower blood sugar levels.

This competition was conceived in search of a signature mocktail that becomes synonymous to KL and creates history as a drink KL-ites can be proud of.

The competition attracted hundreds of applications but were finally narrowed down to 13 local mixologists from hotels and restaurants in KL. The “lucky” 13 presented unique mocktails using local herbs and spices in an attempt to create that perfect mocktail that epitomises KL.
