Years generally breeze by and within the blink of an eye, Sunway Velocity Mall bid goodbye to 2018 in a manner most fitting. On 31 December 2018, a massive and hyped crowd thronged the mall to celebrate New Year’s Eve in style. From as early as 12.00noon, Sunway Velocity Mall’s Jalan Peel stretch was all geared up to welcome 2019 with a bang with shoppers steadily flowing in.
The chosen theme for the big celebration, co-sponsored by Sunway Integrated Properties, was “Colourful 2019”. Each colour represented a new resolution where shoppers were encouraged to come dressed in any colour that represented the hopes they harboured for the new year.
Highlights included various booths by the mall’s tenants, offering a wide array of year-end sale items and mouth-watering delights. Shoppers and mall-goers certainly didn’t have to worry about feeling peckish seeing as a special “Food Truck Lane” offered a vast array of delicious street foods and snacks from around the globe. Among the other festivities were quirky 3D photo booths, free VeloKiddie Kids Club, VeloStudent Club, and Sunway Pals membership registrations, together with fun carnival games where everyone and anyone could try their luck at winning shopping vouchers and gifts! Lucky carnival go-ers were also rewarded with early bird incentives for the Sunway Velocity TWO residence that’s strategically located within KL city centre.
Even our local radio DJs were present as they interacted with the crowd and gave away a whole load of freebies through Q & A sessions and fun activities. If that wasn’t enough, the night’s show-stopper proved to be none other than the explosive LIVE performances by renowned local artistes that took place from 9.00pm onwards. A truly rock-solid line-up enabled fans and merry-makers alike to enjoy renowned household names like Faizal Tahir, Dayang Nurfaizah, Paperplane Pursuit, while rising stars like Alvin Chong, Juztin Lan, Khai Bahar and Jenn Chia who’ve proved to be a hit with followers of all ages made an appearance as well.
Die-hard fans who wanted to be part of an exclusive Meet & Greet on stage participated in a special redemption campaign for Platinum VIP Passes and ended the night by meeting their idols who performed earlier. Among the other giveaways for the night were flight tickets to Japan by H.I.S Travel and a 2D1N Stay at Sunway Velocity Hotel.
A New Year’s Eve bash wouldn’t be one without the customary countdown and fireworks display. And revellers at Sunway Velocity Mall were definitely treated to a magnificent show thanks to the mesmerizing display of lights and sounds that lit up the Cheras skyline on the stroke of midnight, signalling the arrival of a brand new year.
As part of its initiative to give back to the underprivileged in conjunction with this event, Sunway Velocity Mall treated 20 kids from Yayasan Sunbeam Homes to a day out at the malll. Activities for the day included a train ride, blockbuster movie, lunch, and playtime at TGV, TGV Indulge and KidzB respectively. Mid-noon, the kids were guided in an arts & craft session at Commune, Level 5, where they learned to hand-paint. Their colourful hands, each carrying the message of love, peace and joy made up the leaves on the Tree of Hope which was featured on the concert’s stage backdrop, therefore giving more meaning to the theme Colourful 2019. Apart from the individual goodie bags given out, the management also decided to bring more joy into the lives of the children by donating electronic goods worth RM3,000 to the home.
