My Mr. DIY Online Shopping Experience

mr-diyOn the same day as the Mr DIY E-commerce platform launch, I placed an order on www.mrdiy.com.my. My budget was RM50 and to my surprise, I spent more time browsing that website than I expected as there was quite a lot of choice ranging from hardware, electrical, household, stationery, car accessories, toys and many more. There were a few products I needed, I was looking for a mop, clock, torch light and light bulb.

Under hardware, there are several sub-categories such as plumbing, power and hand tools, paint and adhesive, locks and safety and gardening. It looks like Mr DIY has everything covered under hardware. Equally impressive is the household category as they have sub-categories like housekeeping, kitchenware, hooks and cloth baskets, living and bath, home appliances and storage and organisers. Anyone new to the website would spend quite a bit of time browsing.

Finally, I settled on 7 products :

  1. Toilet Paper Holder
  2. Flash Light LED
  3. Pet Bowl
  4. Alarm Clock
  5. Tea Light Candles (50)
  6. Light Bulb
  7. Microfibre Mop

When I got to the final step “Place Order”, I clicked on it and it froze a few times. Eventually it worked. I chose to pick up my order from one of the 24 stores listed (all in Klang Valley) instead of having it delivered to me as I didn’t want to have to sit and wait not knowing when they might drop by. The expected time of arrival (ETA) for all Collect @ MR.D.I.Y. parcels is within the range of 1 – 3 working days after the order has been placed successfully and payment has been confirmed. So since I placed my order last Tuesday, I thought the latest date the parcel would be at my selected outlet would be last Friday.

However as of last Friday, the status of my parcel was “Shipped” and on Saturday, I emailed the Help Desk but they would only respond to me on business working days and that didn’t include weekends. On Monday morning (yesterday) I received a reply from their Help Desk and it said they needed one to three working days to check on my matter. Errrr….that didn’t help me at all. I decided to go to the selected Mr DIY outlet and enquire within. After some checking in several drawers, they found my parcel.

The parcel was nicely wrapped in bubble wrap and Mr DIY printed plastic. I think it’s great value for RM50.30 as there are 7 products. However now that Mr DIY is everywhere with the nearest outlet barely a five minute drive away from my home, I don’t need to do online shopping unless I cannot find the item in any Mr DIY outlet I go to.
