A centuries-old matrimonial custom in Chinese culture has found a modern expression with the launch of Malaysia’s first wedding mattress.
The With Love, Getha – Wedding & Celebration Collection was unveiled at Gurney Plaza, George Town, on Wednesday, where it was officially recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) as the “First Chinese Wedding Mattress in Malaysia”.
The launch brings the traditional preparation of the matrimonial bed, known as an chuang (安床), into the realm of contemporary sleep products, giving the mattress itself a role in a wedding tradition that has traditionally centred on the bed and its preparation.
An chuang is carried out before a couple begins married life, with customs varying between families and dialect groups. The practice is generally associated with wishes for happiness, harmony, prosperity and a good beginning for the newlyweds.

The wedding mattresses feature a distinctive & luxurious red lining along the side, together with an embroidered double-happiness symbol, while retaining the core features and sleep technologies of Getha’s Transforme Miracle Latex series. For Malaysians who are already married or are not getting married, Getha has also introduced the With Blessing, Getha series which replaces the double-happiness symbol with 4 other options – (愛) representing Love,（發) which symbolises wealth & prosperity，(財) symbolising money & wealth,（福) symbolising blessings, good fortune, happiness.
As an added touch, Getha customers can personalise their wedding mattresses with embroidered names and dates positioned above and below the Double Happiness or Blessing symbol, with a maximum of 18 characters per row. Customers may choose from three elegant thread colours — Gold, Navy Blue, and Dark Brown — paired with the timeless Brush Script MT font.
