The time has come for Malaysian and International designers to showcase their skills to stand a chance to walk away with cash prizes of up to RM5,000 and have their artwork featured on a dazzling Porsche at the Art of Wheels – Rim Design Challenge 2022. The competition was established through a collaborative effort between Giant Light Metal Technology Malaysia (GLM) and My Lives Global Marketing & Event as an initiative to upskill aspiring designers in Malaysia.
The Art of Wheels – Rim Design Challenge 2022 celebrates the best of art and engineering in the automotive industry. In this competition, designers will incorporate the use of GLM’s expertise to produce state-of-the-art alloy rims that incorporate superior functionality, aesthetic quality, and exceptional user experience.
Although aesthetics is the priority in this competition, participants are expected to highlight
lightweight features of the material – alloy, while exuding avant-garde fashionable style to meet the needs of discerning and affluent luxury car owners and prestige automakers.
Apart from this, factors such as material utility, reinventing customer perception of alloy wheels, creativity, concept, and feasibility in a real-world design, will be taken into account by professional industry-leading judges.
The top 10 winners can look forward to taking home cash prizes and trophies, as well as having their designs converted into alloy rims and fitted onto 10 selected Porsche 911 and 718. Below are the prize category winnings:
● Champion: RM5,000 + Trophy
● 1st Runner-Up: RM3,000 + Trophy
● 2nd Runner-Up: RM2,000 + Trophy
● 7x Consolation Prizes: RM500 + Trophy
Mr. Henry Tho, Chairman of Giant Light Metal Technology, said, “This competition is aimed to create a pathway for aspiring Malaysian designers to showcase their talents and be exposed to a new world of creativity. Through this competition, we hope to push the limits of our contestants and provide them with constructive feedback that can be carried forward
throughout their professional careers. In doing so, we hope to fulfill our responsibility as established industry players to mentor and nurture the future generation and our local talents.”
Participants are required to submit their CV and rim design by 27 July 2022; the top 30 contestants will then advance to Phase 2 of the competition and meet the Porsche owners in person before competing for a place in the top 10. For more information, visit https://www.glmwheels.com/pages/rdc22.
