Fifty finalists of the Guardian Win a Home Makeover (WAHM) contest battled it out at a reality-style finale yesterday, for home makeover packages totalling RM500,000.

At the end of the hour-long challenge, 10 of them took home a grand prize of RM50,000 each. Each RM50,000 package comes with interior renovations for the living room, kitchen and master bedroom, as well as electrical appliances from Kuvings.

The 50 finalists were selected from over one million entries for the WAHM contest, held in conjunction with Guardian Malaysia’s 50 th anniversary celebrations. The contest, which ran from 6 July to 7 September, was organized jointly with Petron Malaysia.

Marketing director of Guardian Health And Beauty Sdn Bhd, Ms. Christina Low speaking at the event, said: “We wanted to offer a prize that was meaningful to reward our customers for their support and loyalty over the last 50 years.”

We viewed a home makeover as big-ticket prize, that enabled us to be a part of our customers key life moments, to contribute to making their family home environment more comfortable.

Christina also said that together with Petron, they made it very easy for shoppers to participate. A purchase of a minimum of RM10 from any Guardian store or Guardian E-store qualifies them for one entry. Likewise, P Miles members who pump a minimum of RM10 petrol fuel in a single receipt, automatically qualified for one entry.

“I am pleased to say that the contest was a huge success. Guardian and Petron received over one million entries from all over Malaysia during the short two-month period,” she added.

Petron Head of Retail Business, Puan Faridah Ali said at the finale: “Our partnership with Guardian offer Malaysians a chance to redecorate and refurbish their homes. As we continue to show our appreciation of our customers’ support, we remain committed to giving them more value whenever they fuel up with Petron.

Through Petron Miles program, we are able to give Guardian and Petron customers more savings, more rewards, and ultimately a ‘Fuel Happy’ experience,” she added.

Commenting on the reality-format to pick the grand prize winners, Christina said: “Our aim is to make the finale as interesting and challenging as possible, to give all 50 finalists an equal chance to win the TEN grand prize of A HOME MAKEOVER package worth RM50,000 each.

It is also our goal to promote camaraderie and sportsmanship among our shoppers and make the event a truly memorable one for all.

For the other 40 finalists, they each took home attractive prizes. Ten won the first prize of one year of free petrol from Petron, worth RM4,000 each, another 10 won the second prize of Guardian vouchers worth RM2,000 each and 20 others won Petron Miles point worth RM1,000 each.
