After our stop at Salt Lake, we were finally on our way back to Istanbul with a stop in Ankara for lunch. When we were in Ankara, our Turkish tour guide pointed out the various government buildings from the bus. Ankara replaced Istanbul as the capital city of Turkey in 1923. Anitkabir, the mausoleum complex housing the remains of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder and first President of the Turkish Republic is located in Ankara.

The group at my table had brought along a container of anchovy sambal which we mixed into the salad. There’s always salad for lunch with no dressing other than olive oil. It was a relief to have some spice in the form of the sambal as the salad was rather bland and dry. Turkish food is generally good, but we all missed the usual Malaysian favourites which have more spice and taste.
