Redicovering Wondermama After So Many Years Of Wondering If They Were Still Around

Since Wondermama opened many years ago at Bangsar Village and later at Avenue K, I have enjoyed my meals there. Tasty dishes and reasonably priced, the menu had a good variety of Western/local dishes. Then the outlets at BV and Avenue K closed and that was also several years ago pre-pandemic. I did wonder occasionally if they were still around somewhere but I didn’t google to confirm.

Then a few weeks ago while looking for a decent place to have dinner at 1 Utama, I came across Wondermama again. There’s quite a lot of seating inside and outside the restaurant. The waiter was welcoming and answered my enquiry on whether there were other outlets. No, there is only 1 Wondermama and it’s at 1 Utama.

One good thing about the menu is that there are sharing options @ only RM30.50. You get to choose 1 dish from their half & half category (one local dish & one Western) and another dish from their rice or noodle category. I ordered the Beef Rendang Tok (Nasi Kunyit + Carbonara). On its own, this dish costs RM19.90.

The Beef Rendang Tok comes on a bamboo platter, looked nice and tasted even better. The beef rendang is tender, thank goodness as there is nothing worse than tough beef which you have to chew and chew. The portion of rice looked small but actually surprisingly filling as it is Nasi Kunyit after all. Even the Carbonara was delicious. Highly recommend this dish for anyone visiting Wondermama.

Teriyaki Chicken + Carbonara

The second dish was Teriyaki Chicken + Carbonara. I think it must have been okay too as my dining companion had no complaints. The only thing I didn’t quite like was the drink, too sour and reminded me of cough medicine.

There are condiments and tiffin carriers at the cashier counter. The tiffin carriers are beautiful and rather vintage-looking.
