dscn94951Sunway Medical Centre (SunMed) today concluded its five-year ‘Let’s Take 5 Campaign’, aimed at creating awareness on diabetes with a fun consumer carnival held at Sunway Pyramid. The closing event was attended by Dato’ Dr. Haki Azman bin Abu Bakar, Director, Medical Development Division of the Ministry of Health and Dr. Khoo Chow Huat, Deputy Managing Director, Sunway Group Healthcare Services/Chief Executive Officer, Sunway Medical Centre.

The ‘Let’s Take 5 Campaign’ was launched in 2012 in an effort to take on the growing threat of diabetes in Malaysia. Championing World Diabetes Day, celebrated annually on 14 November, SunMed worked closely with the Ministry of Health, its agencies, local city councils, shopping malls, pharmaceutical companies and non-profit organisations such as the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and Limbs for Life Prosthesis Centre, among others, to promote the prevention and control of diabetes and its complications while promoting a healthier lifestyle among Malaysians over the last five years.

Each year focuses on one of the five diabetes complication areas (brain, eyes, heart, kidney and foot) and a series of unique activities to promote awareness on diabetes were organised throughout the campaign period. This year’s theme was ‘Walk The Talk’ and focused on the foot.
