GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare (“GSK”), one of the world’s leading research-based healthcare company, today launched a new Sensodyne mouthwash that offers 24-hour protection against tooth sensitivity in an effort to provide consumers with a complete oral care regime and continue its mission to tackle Malaysia’s prevalent oral health issue to elevate Malaysians oral health standards. This is in line with GSK Consumer Healthcare’s mission to help more people around the world to do more, feel better and live longer.

In Malaysia, sensitive teeth incidences are common among young adults, aged between 18 to 34 and 40% of those who suffer from tooth sensitivity are not taking control of their oral health conditions. Tooth sensitivity is claimed to be the highest oral health problem in Malaysia with one in three people suffering the condition. However, only a third of the sufferers use sensitive toothpaste to relieve their zingy sensation[1].

“Tooth sensitivity is a common dental problem many people experience. Almost 50% of sensitive sufferers adopt a regime care and this means that almost 1.38 million Malaysian adults are advance oral care regime user. With the increasing incidences of sensitive tooth sufferers in Malaysia, it is timely to launch Sensodyne Mouthwash and we see the importance of encouraging sufferers to opt for an advanced oral care regime.[2] The new Sensodyne Mouthwash provides lasting freshening effect, and fluoride to strengthen teeth and protect against decay,” said Stacy Wallace, General Manager of GSK Consumer Healthcare Malaysia & Brunei.

In addition to the existing toothbrush and toothpaste, it is the first mouthwash in Malaysia that offers long lasting protection against tooth sensitivity among Malaysians who suffer from tooth sensitivity, allowing them the pleasure to enjoy their favourite food with their family and their friends without suffering from the zingy sensation. The Sensodyne mouthwash provides 24 hours ongoing protection for sensitive teeth when used twice daily after brushing their teeth. The active ingredients found in the mouthwash works inside the tooth to build a soothing and long-lasting protection around the nerves.

The mouthwash fluoride formula also strengthens the teeth and the mint flavour leaves the breath fresh and clean so that consumers can stay confident during social interactions. The new Sensodyne mouthwash is alcohol free, thus making it halal; a certified product for all consumers to enjoy. Consumers will be able to choose from two options which are Extra Fresh, spicy floral with a hint of vanilla; and Cool Mint, a burst of peppermint, menthol and green tea.

Dr. Army Empol, Consultant in Restorative Dentistry who was at the launch said “Sensitive teeth leads to an unpleasant sensation and when prolonged, can affect your daily life. Avoiding your favourite foods that are cold, sweet, and hot does not help you to break free from the zingy sensation in your teeth. It is the regular daily advanced oral regime for sensitive teeth that maintains the sensitivity protection”.
