REXPERIENCE (RXP.KL), Malaysia’s largest immersive art space, announces the unveiling of its third season, “Twilight,” on 9 August 2024. This season artfully interlaces the threads of tradition and modernity, emotion and technology, past and future, showcasing innovative artistry from both local and global artists.
Traverse the corridors of Malaysian history through the lens of traditional batik art and contemporary digital storytelling with “Hanya Batik,”. Artists Arif Rafhan, Fahmi Hosnan, Ian Kit, and Cuurley present a narrative that interweaves everyday life, historic milestones, and cultural celebrations, seamlessly connecting Malaysia’s pastoral past with its dynamic present.
Engage with the juxtaposition of geometric and organic forms with “Geometry of Emotion,”. Fabien Bouchard and Mathieu Pernaud’s sensory exploration employs real-time projections and spatialised sound to delve into emotional landscapes shaped by digital data, prompting reflection on our relationship with technology.
Experience the intersection of dance, electronic music, and generative video with Colas Fiszman and Laurent Delforge through “Escape,”. This performance synchronises dancers ‘movements with dynamic projections, offering a multidisciplinary exploration of contemporary societal themes and self-identity. With ‘Twilight,’ we aim to nurture a creative pipeline in Malaysia while deepening the community’s exposure to immersive art,” said Sebastien Jurkowski, CEO and Creative Director of RXP.KL. “This season gathers Malaysian and international artists to create a unique, collaborative environment that honours the storied past of REX Cinema in Kuala Lumpur. ”Since its inception, REXPERIENCE has championed accessibility, offering free entry to its space and advanced technologies to foster artistic collaboration.
This year, for the first time, REXPERIENCE is excited to present exclusive, one-day-only workshops led by “Twilight” artists: Join Colas Fiszman with “Introduction to Immersive Experience with Touch Designer,” to master an invaluable tool for designing interactive and generative visuals, ideal for installations and performances. This workshop caters to artists, designers, and technologists eager to explore the confluence of art and technology. Under the guidance of Fabien Bouchard, participate in the workshop “Unlocking Interactivity for Installations and Experiences.” Explore the various ways of adding interactivity to an art project. Learn how to make an installation react to people, sound, or external data using TouchDesigner and Unreal Engine. Fabien’s work, which navigates the interface between technology and human sensitivity, has been showcased in major cities worldwide, including Paris, Dubai, and New York.
“Our artist-led workshops are integral to our mission to be a conservatory for digital artistic talent here in Malaysia by providing opportunities to explore and innovate in this burgeoning discipline,” Jurkowski continued.
REXPERIENCE has always captivated audiences with its previous exhibitions. The inaugural exhibit, “Other World,” transported visitors through cosmic, natural, urban, and abstract dimensions, redefining traditional art-viewing experiences. The second season, “Piying Dream,” showcased over 3,000 digital shadow puppets, blending Chinese shadow play with modern digital projection to create a mesmerising journey.
