OPPO’s very own operating system boasts a highly-customized, efficient, intelligent and rich design with a support for multiple languages, a whopping 67 in total, showcasing how inclusivity is at the heart of its design.

To date, the ColorOS is one of the most popular mobile operating systems in the world, with over 440 million users in 68 countries/regions. By March 2016, less than 3 years after the first ColorOS was launched in September 2013, OPPO has reached its 100 million user mark.

Over the years, the ColorOS has unveiled many features designed to enhance the user experience and this includes the Infinite Design introduced during the launch of the ColorOS 7 and the release of Android 11 with the ColorOS 11, and also provides OPPO users with an experience closer to stock Android.

OPPO Malaysia’s Chief Executive Officer, William Fang, said that OPPO’s ColorOS is designed to help redefine consumer experience and improve one’s digital lifestyle. “Our ColorOS has reached a certain level of maturity following years of development, updates, and positive feedback from millions of users and we are excited for users to explore the brand new ColorOS 12,” said Fang.

The dawn of a new era

With the official global launch of the OPPO ColorOS 12 on 11 October 2021, it signifies the dawn of a new era for ColorOS, as the latest update is set to be akin to a gradually evolving lifeform, always moving further towards perfection, and at the heart of it, working to improve its user’s lifestyle.

The ColorOS 12 comes with all Android 12 privacy features, 22 accessibility features, and provides 100% integration with stock Android privacy features, alongside OPPO’s proprietary Inclusive Design Language. With ColorOS 12, OPPO has also opened up 27 of its system capabilities to third parties, covering camera, performance, AI, AR unit and more.

With the latest ColorOS 12, users can enjoy a longer battery life to stay productive whether at home or on-the-go, thanks to the AI System Booster which has enabled memory usage on the ColorOS 12 to be reduced by 30% and background power consumption by 20%. Devices powered by the ColorOS 12 can be used for 36 months without any noticeable decrease in performance due to the 36-month comprehensive ageing rate of just 2.75%.

Accessibility is part and parcel of the ColorOS experience and with the ColorOS 12, OPPO has introduced its Inclusive Design concept and has even set up a multilingual language team to localize and adapt the UI to different languages. This results a better user experience independent of any particular language or culture to cater for OPPO’s 440 million users worldwide.

Personalization is what makes a ColorOS truly unique and the ColorOS 12 promotes customization with the Omoji[1] to make one’s user experience all the more interactive, alongside the updated Always On Display (AOD) 2.0 features. Omoji is arguably the most customizable emoji on the market, with more than 200 stylish and trendy accessories and emoticons that can be mixed and matched to create hundreds of millions of different flexible and vivid Omoji persona. The inclusion of Omoji on ColorOS 12 is designed to bring innovation and customizable features to more users around the world. What’s more, Omoji integrates with the inclusivity concept of ColorOS, enabling users of every ethnicity, nationality, and personality to find their perfect virtual avatar.

An intuitive experience means nothing without enhanced privacy and this is precisely what the team has sought to improve with its ColorOS 12. Through the Privacy Dashboard, permissions for apps to use the camera, microphone, and location data, along with the actual data used, are displayed clearly for users to review and manage. Permissions and limits can be set for each application to ensure that private data is not being misused, considering how identity theft and privacy breach is of utmost concern among users in the digital era. This allows for users to use apps with a better peace of mind.

OPPO has been continuing to enhance the smart efficiency of ColorOS, and on ColorOS 12, OPPO now offers a range of smart features to help users get the most out of their device with ease. Such features include PC Connect[2], Phone Manager, Three-finger Translation,FlexDrop,Smart Sidebar, Screen Translate and more to promote efficiency and productivity.

Designed by users, for users

With the core principle of OPPO ColorOS developers being avid OPPO users themselves, the team is able to design features that meet their very own pain points with hopes of designing a better user experience for all OPPO users with hopes of solving their pain points.

Digital users everywhere see their smart devices as a tool which works in tandem with their increasingly digital lifestyle and their OS must be able to keep up with the demands of their day-to-day life.

Therefore, at the heart of it, the ColorOS experience anchors on three values, including efficiency, convenience and simplicity. With a focus on improving user efficiency, the ColorOS aims to facilitate the easy completion of tasks, provide quick and effective access to services and information, and deliver an effortless user experience.

Additionally, to serve the core needs of target users, ColorOS is designed to be both simple and subtle, providing a convenient, easy-to-use experience. Finally, a thorough understanding of user habits shapes the intuitive, easy-to-understand, and concise design, making it straightforward for users to understand on-screen content, get started quickly, and enjoy a more natural experience.

Fang firmly believes that since its inception, the brand has been making comprehensive updates and optimizations in design that have set the foundation for future designs of ColorOS.

“Moving forward, we will be more measured when updating the design of ColorOS, taking small steps without deviating too far from the unified design style. We will continue to explore new features through these small modifications and invite all OPPO users to try the new ColorOS 12 today,” said Fang.
