L to R – Mythic Oil Original, Milk, Rich, Colour Glow

It’s no secret that oils have been used as part of beauty rituals in ancient civilizations particularly by women of the Middle and Far East. The Egyptians, Chinese, Japanese and Indian civilizations used oils to nourish and protect their hair.

Inspired by this age old beauty tradition, L’oreal Professionnel launched Mythic Oil Original in October 2011 which has since gone on to become a bestseller and resounding success with 3 bottles sold every minute worldwide.

In mid-2012, L’oreal Professionnel introduced 3 more Mythic Oils to cater to different hair types, needs and concerns. Each Mythic Oil contains precious key ingredients to provide unique and special benefits to each individual’s hair.

Mythic Oil Original

For normal hair/all hair types, this one contains a blend of avocado and grapeseed oil. This is the 1st Mythic Oil I tried and it was an instant love because my dry hair was immediately softer and on days I run out of hair conditioner, this oil is a fantastic substitute. It detangles my hair and doesn’t feel so dry more than 24 hours after the oil has been applied. I apply it before and after blow drying my hair and even in between shampoos, whenever my hair feels dry.

Mythic Oil Milk

The only 1 of the 4 oils which comes in the form of a spray and as such, the most lightweight of the 4 oils. It’s ideal for fine hair types. Contains a blend of Royalactin and Passiflora Oil. Royalactin is rich in antioxidants and B-complex vitamins, while Passiflora Oil is rich in vitamin C, calcium and phosphorous. Use this as a post-shampoo detangler for added moisture or as a pre-blow dry conditioner to deliver shine, softness and anti-frizz protection. For added softness that improves the appearance of split ends, Mythic Oil Milk can be used as a finishing spritz. For me, this is the most convenient of the 4 oils as I don’t have to wash my hands after application. Spritzing it on is fuss-free and fast.

Mythic Oil Rich

The richest and probably thickest in consistency of the 4 oils, this one is ideal for unruly and thick hair. It has a taming and anti-frizz effect. Contains a blend of precious rice bran oil to intensely moisturise and replenish unruly hair for restored sleekness, and argan oil that deeply nourishes rebellious hair with its rich content of vitamin E and essential fatty acids. Use as a conditioner pre-blow dry to restore softness for easier styling and added control. Or for the ultimate finishing touch, spritz this for long-lasting anti-frizz taming effect. This one is excellent for taming frizzy hair and keeps hair in place long after it’s been applied.

Mythic Oil Colour Glow

This is a special blend for colour treated hair, offers radiance and protection. Contains linseed oil so hair fibre is enveloped in a high concentration of essential fatty acids for added radiance and shine. Cranberry oil further protects with its potent antioxidant properties. Recommended for use daily as a UV filter to protect hair from the sun’s damaging rays, as a pre-blow dry shine enhancer to smooth hair for a high-shine appearance, and as a finishing touch for a dazzling sparkle to your hair.

Overview

With the exception of Mythic Oil Milk, these oils are concentrated yet non-sticky and don’t weigh down my hair. My hair just feels  and looks better with the application of any of these oils. My favourite oils are Original and Colour Glow. What can I say? I just love the scents – each one has its own distinctive scent because of the different key ingredients. If you have hair that doesn’t have special needs, then Original is for you. If you have fine hair or just prefer the oil in spray form, then Milk is the one for you. However, if you have thick, unruly hair, then it’s Rich Oil. If you have colour treated hair and would like to boost the colour and add radiance, Colour Glow is the best choice. Ultimately, it’s all up to the individual but one thing’s for sure, it’s also no myth that Scheherazade of “One Thousand And One Nights” and Rapunzel of you-know-where (sorry, been watching too many episodes of “Once Upon A Time” at one go, I suppose!) would have loved these oils as does a certain Juniper whose hair condition has improved heaps after using these oils.

Each Oil retails at RM75/125ml and are available at all L’oreal Professionnel Salons nationwide.

…Does it mean that Mythic Oil Milk made your hair weigh down or it´s sticky??

I have extended platinum hair in a good quality but quite dry, which one would you recommend me, please? Thank u. 🙂

    • Mythic Oil Milk is the most lightweight and least concentrated of the oils. None of them were sticky or weighed down my hair but Rich Oil woud be the one which feels heaviest in terms of texture. If you have thick hair, then Rich Oil is suitable but for coloured hair, then it’d be Colour Glow. For normal to dry uncoloured hair, Original would be suitable. If you like the convenience of a spray & the most lightweight of the oils, then I’d recommend Milk.
