This Is What Happens When I Get Calls From People Speaking Mandarin

I used one of their free 1GB cards to redeem their Internet at no charge between 1-7pm valid 24 hours from activation. I received a sms from them that the 1GB had been successfully activated.

An hour later, I received the sms below that they had charged me a total of RM8 for Internet. So I called their customer service to complain about the RM8 charge. After all I had only used the Internet for whatsapp and hadn’t even exceeded 50GB which is far from the 1GB limit.

She said my name as per my IC and before she had a chance to say where she was calling from, I hung up. It was an auto reaction because 10 of out 10 calls I have received so far from people speaking in Mandarin are either marketing or scam calls. I only realised it was from Digi when I saw their sms shortly after I had hung up that they had tried calling but failed to reach me.

I guess they all assume that just because I have a Chinese name, I must speak Mandarin. Yes I have come to associate calls from people who speak Mandarin as unwelcome (especially those who say my full name) as they (more often than not) offer me dubious deals which only benefit them and scams.
