Getting Nostalgic With Urban Decay’s Rollergirl

When I was in primary school, I had a pair of roller skates. I wasn’t very good at it but roller skating was a lot of fun. Urban Decay has come up with an equally fun palette in the form of the Rollergirl Palette which has a mini lip gloss tube, 4 eyeshadows and an eye pencil.

I liked the theme of this palette from the images of the girl on roller skates on the cover of the palette to the flower prints on the interior. The mirror isn’t very big but I’d say it’s an adequate size. There are no brushes or applicators inside. I like the magnetic closure as I just have to drop the lid down and it closes automatically.

My first thought when I opened the cover was “what am I going to do with the Woodstock bright fuchsia eyeshadow shade which was so out-of-sync with the other 3 neutral shade eyeshadows?” How to make it work, wasn’t it a bit out of place?

No issues with the textures of the eyeshadows, all gave excellent colour pay-off, went on smoothly, blended beautifully and had long staying power even without the use of eye primers. I used the pearly oyster shade, Verve all over my lids as a base and as a highlighter, then applied Suspect from the inner corners of my lids towards the middle and Darkhorse on the outer corners of the lids blending with Suspect.

Taking a cue from Temptalia who looked fantastic in the eyeshadows, I applied Woodstock over my eye crease, just a smidgen was enough to make it show up. I could have applied Woodstock on the outer corners of my eyes but I thought Suspect and Darkhorse were perfect for the eye crease area. I was a bit concerned that Woodstock would make my eyes look swollen but I don’t think it does, it’s a shade that can probably be used on top of other dark/neutral toned eyeshadows.

This is a palette that can take you from a day to night look in an instant, use just the 3 neutral shades in the day and add Woodstock for a pop of colour when it’s time to paint the town red. Without Woodstock, it might just be another boring run-of-the-mill neutral eyeshadow palette but with Woodstock in it, it becomes much more exciting.

The 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Whiskey is smooth and doesn’t pull my eyelids but I wish it’d been a darker colour as it doesn’t show up much against Darkhorse. Crush Lip Gloss is quite sheer but looks good applied over most lipsticks. It gives a tingly, cooling sensation on the lips.

Urban Decay’s Rollergirl Palette makes me want to look for my old skates. I, too was a rollergirl back in the day way back in the 20th century.
