Freeman "Feeling Beautiful" Chocolate & Strawberry Facial Clay Mask

Freeman has a range of masks under their “Feeling Beautiful” range to suit all skin types, be it dry, oily or combination. The two latest masks available are Chocolate & Strawberry Facial Clay Mask (for normal to combination skin) and Pomegranate Facial Revealing Peel-Off Mask (for all skin types).

The Chocolate & Strawberry Facial Clay Mask contains strawberry extract to help tone and diminish the appearance of pores and Shea and Cocoa Butter to moisturize. No matter what type of skin you have, I believe it’s beneficial to skin to use a clay mask occasionally to purify and detoxify. As a porous material, clay absorbs the excess oil and impurities that cause breakouts and shine, nourish shin and remove dead cells from the surface.

There are different types of clay used in masks, each with their own subtle benefits. Bentonite or fuller’s clay exfoliates as it purifies, and is suitable for all skin types. French green clay drinks in oil, tones and stimulates blood flow beneath the skin. French red clay takes its colour from iron oxides, which help to refresh oily, mature or sensitive skin. French white clay rejuvenates, soothes and softens, while Rassoul clay from Morocco is rich in minerals to nourish skin.

Kaolin, another mild white clay, gently cleanses and exfoliates without overly drying, making it perfect even for sensitive skin. It’s this fine, fluffy and powdery clay that is used in Freeman “Feeling Beautiful” Masks and gives their detoxifying effect without turning your skin into a desert.

After cleansing, dry your face with a towel. Freeman recommends giving yourself a steam facial to open your pores to the mask as an added benefit. Apply the mask with your fingertips, covering your face evenly. Avoid the sensitive skin around the eyes. There’s no need to rub the mask into your skin like a scrub or wash; just smooth it on gently.

The Chocolate & Strawberry Facial Clay Mask smells and feels like a chocolate mousse dessert. It glides on my skin so smoothly and after 20 minutes, it starts to dry but not to the extent that my skin feels too tight. The mask will shrink and tighten slightly as it dries. It’s not advisable to leave it on until the mask looks like it’s cracking.

Rinse off with warm water and finish off with cold water to close pores. My skin feels smoother and cleaner after I have used this mask and pores look more refined with repeated use (2-3 times a week).
