Ever since the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 became available, I wanted to review it as I’d read so much about it. About 2 weeks ago, I had just that opportunity and it was in my favourite Flip4 colour – Bora Purple. It’s also available in Graphite, Pink Gold and Blue. However, I think the most unique shade of all is Bora Purple. It’s such a sweet pastel colour, just looking at the colour makes my day.
A flip phone is very useful and practical because not all pockets are deep. I do like wearing clothes with deep pockets so that my phone can fit inside without being visible. Nothing like a flip phone though for being completely compact & you won’t feel that feeling of dread that the phone is going to fall out of your pocket.
When folded, the time and date is displayed on the Cover Screen, albeit briefly. I can view the calendar too even when the phone is folded. In fact, you can also work on the Cover Screen like sending text messages and add widgets without the phone being flipped open.
I can flip it almost shut with one hand but it’s much faster and easier to use 2 hands – hold the lower half of the phone firmly with one hand and close it with the other hand. The 6.7 inch screen is perfect for watching videos and makes reading very comfortable for the eyes. Less eye strain is always a good thing.
It’s designed to stay strong over 200,000 folds. The hinge is protected by Armor Aluminum — Samsung’s toughest aluminum frame. I guess that alone really makes it worth the price. Not that I would ever put it to the test but it’s reassuring to know that it’s among the world’s first water-resistant foldable smartphones.5 It can hang out in 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes without breaking a sweat.
I can feel and see the crease but it’s not that obvious. It certainly looks very flat which is remarkable in itself. The display is extremely bright which makes watching videos a pleasure and the sound is crystal clear and crisp. There’s no doubt from these features just how much of a top-end/premium phone it is.
Battery life is long, it gets through the whole day and by that I do mean 24 hours without needing a charge. An upgraded 4nm processor works with the long-lasting 3700mAh (typical) battery to power through the hours.
With the Smart Switch function, it made the transition between my own Samsung phone and Galaxy Z Flip4 simple — it works even if you don’t already have a Samsung Galaxy. In just a few steps it brings over your photos, texts, data and more. In a few minutes, my contact list, WhatsApp messages, photos, even apps had been transferred to the Flip4. Easy-peasy and saved so much time otherwise I would have had to input all the contact info manually.
With the Flip4, I don’t think it’s possible to take a bad photo. I didn’t have to set anything and the photos of my cats + my selfies indoors and outdoors came out beautifully. I don’t have to do any editing at all and already pleased with the results.
If I were to choose the feature of this phone that is most appealing to me, it’d definitely be the design. Sure, you may be able to get more or less the same quality of performance in other Samsung phones, but the flip feature is what truly makes this phone unique. I love the fact that it’s so compact and fits right in the palm of my hand when closed. It saves so much space if your bag is small and I would never have to worry about the phone dropping out of my pocket like I do with my own phone. Personally, I have always preferred flip phones as they just look so good when you hold them 😍!
