My Shockwave Therapy Session At OUG Chiropractic Centre

When it comes to treatment for my awful heel spur pain, I am not out of options yet (other than surgery, I mean) so I made an appointment at yet another chiropractic centre near my residence – OUG Chiropractic Centre which isn’t in OUG but Bukit Jalil Integrated Business Park which is just outside of OUG (otherwise known as Overseas Union Garden).

My appointment was last Friday morning with Dr. Lee (they are closed on Thursdays). Surprisingly, they are located on the 1st floor of a row of shophouses above a laundrette. I am surprised because people who visit chiropractors would normally have mobility issues and to climb up a flight of stairs is daunting even for me who has a lousy heel.

At the registration counter, a list of their fees is clearly visible. Too bad I didn’t discover this place until June, a month after they had increased their fees. Would have saved me a lot as I need at least 5-6 sessions, in my estimate. They charge RM120 for the 1st consultation and that includes treatment. That price doesn’t include treatments like shockwave therapy which starts at RM90.

As usual, my timing is off as I came after the prices increased

After my consultation with Dc. Lee, she recommended I try the shockwave therapy. That’s something I have been curious about as I have read a bit about the therapy being used on my kind of heel spur condition. Shockwave therapy is similar to the ultrasound sessions I went for at a hospital but shockwave is stronger. It uses acoustic sound waves or high energy pulses sent into bone and soft tissue. It can help dissolve calcification but I will only know its effects on me after a minimum of 5 sessions.

No wonder it is called shockwave therapy. Not that it’s painful in the least to me. Dry needling is more painful, although I can tolerate it. It’s the shock you get from the jackhammer sound of the device as it’s used on your affected area. Of course no miracle expected after the 1st treatment since I have such a severe heel spur and calcification. Am going back for my 2nd appointment there tomorrow so let’s see how it goes. Fees here are reasonable and I can only keep my fingers and toes crossed for the best results.
