Piano Trial Lesson At D-Flat Music Academy Might Just Get Me Hooked

dsc_0034Although I had lessons on the organ during my secondary school years and have a Yamaha which I haven’t played in years, I have always wanted to play a tune on the piano. Upon attending the official launch of D-Flat Music Academy, I was offered a trial lesson in piano/guitar/vocal. Of course I was all for learning the piano, one lesson would do to satisfy my curiosity.

I didn’t know what to expect at this trial lesson but hopefully being able to identify musical notes would help speed up the learning process. When I met the teacher, I could immediately tell she was very experienced. I was ushered into a small room with a beautiful piano. As soon as I tinkled the keys, she said my fingernails were too long. Yup if I wanted to continue playing, I would have to cut them nails short.

dsc_0036Counting the beat is important, I had to hold the note for 1, 2, 3 or 4 seconds depending on what was printed on the bars. It sounds a lot easier than it actually is because I have to identify the note and count in my head how long I have to hold the note for. Then my left and right fingers have to co-ordinate.

Even being able to play a short tune is immensely satisfying. I know it takes years of learning and daily practise to be able to play even half as well as the teacher but it’s a lot of fun. As the teacher said, “you’re never too old to learn”. So for those who think they’re too old to learn piano, take the first step and take a trial lesson at D-Flat Music Academy. You never know, you might just get hooked like me. I would love to continue and see how far I can go.
