Fong Lye Taiwan Fusion Cuisine Restaurant

Last August, I was invited to lunch at Fong Lye Taiwan Fusion Cuisine Restaurant on the 3rd Floor of The Gardens. At first, I thought it was the Fong Lye outlet which is always packed during lunch time and dinner, you know the one facing Moo Cow. Then I noticed there was a bigger and what looked like fine dining Fong Lye a stone’s throw away so I waited for my dining companion near the smaller but more crowded Fong Lye outlet.

Turned out we were heading towards the more spacious Fong Lye. It can be confusing for a first-timer since the 2 outlets are so near each other. Fong Lye Taiwan Fusion Cuisine Restaurant offers  Japanese-style teppanyaki (there’s an elevated area for that), steamboat and Taiwanese stir-fried dishes.

We decided on the steamboat set for 2 (RM98++) which comes with 3 soup base choices – mala, herbal and tomato. We could choose 2 as the steamboat pot had a divider. No mala for me as I think it’s just too heaty and did you read about the man whose stomach wall was burnt after consuming mala soup? Not that it’ll happen here but we preferred the milder choices of tomato and herbal.

The set consists of quite a lot of seafood. There’s even fish cakes in the shape of Angry Birds and bears! So cute, too cute to eat actually. There’s also beef slices, everything is very palatable with the soups. Adequate vegetables are also provided to complete the meal.

You can help yourself to the sauces at a separate table. There are sauces I never even knew existed. Choose from bean paste, sesame, peanut and many, many more. So many that I was spoilt for choice. I can’t remember all of them but they were fantastic complements to the seafood, beef and vegetables.

For dessert, there was this mango jelly and a slice of cake.

Definitely a dining experience worth repeating if it wasn’t quite so pricey!
