The Ministry of National Unity (KPN) through the Department of Museums Malaysia (JMM) has organized a prestigious exhibition, namely the ASEAN Fabric Exhibition: The Beauty of Weaving. The exhibition’s opening ceremony was officiated by YABhg. Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah binti Dr. Wan Ismail in conjunction with Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN this year.
With the theme “The Eternity of Weaving”, this exhibition aims to introduce ASEAN’s textile heritage, preserve the art of weaving, and foster awareness of regional cultural diversity among ASEAN countries. The exhibition is ongoing from October 20 to December 31, 2025, at Gallery 2, Department of Museums Malaysia.

YB Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, Minister of National Unity, in his speech said, ‘This exhibition is not just about showcasing the beauty and finesse of craftsmanship, but it is a symbol of Cultural Heritage Diplomacy. It illustrates how art, history, and tradition serve as a bridge between nations. Through fabric, we are not merely weaving patterns, but weaving trust, friendship, and mutual respect.’
This exhibition features 105 collections consisting of textiles, woven materials, traditional weaving tools, as well as regional community costumes. These collections are arranged into four main segments that guide visitors through the ASEAN textile heritage, the fabric-making process, the beauty of patterns, and the challenges of preserving the art of weaving in the modern world.

This exhibition also featured a fashion show by Zachrin Jaafars showcasing the beauty of traditional ASEAN collections. In addition, YABhg. Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah also presented certificates of appreciation to collection donors as recognition for their contributions in making this exhibition possible.
