There are bakeries in every mall and suburban neighbourhood, some are mediocre and some are passable. There weren’t any I missed during the initial stages of the MCO in March/April save for Barcook in MidValley which was closed for 2 months. This is the only bakery which I have found that does a baguette in the way a real baguette should be which is that it should absolutely not have the texture of a bun like what a lot of other bakeries do. I think that a lot of bakeries make baguettes that don’t taste anything like what a baguette should taste like.
Other than the excellent Barcook baguette which I buy every time I am at MidValley, I would recommend the garlic bun and mushroom ham bun. Some bakeries’ garlic buns can be quite pungent but the Barcook garlic bun is just right with creamy garlic within and sprinkled generously with sesame seeds. The mushroom ham bun contains a creamy sauce and is a savoury treat. They may not have as many choices as other bakeries in the mall but what they have is generally superb and doesn’t disappoint.
