Thanks to an invitation from Crème De La Crème (CDLC) in Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya to review their Hello Kitty desserts specially created in conjunction with Hello Kitty’s 45th anniversary, I discovered all the beautiful creations CDLC has to offer. Opened 7 months ago, CDLC is the most instagrammable artisanal dessert haven I have ever been to. It’s made even more instagrammable with the images of Hello Kitty on the tables and walls. I couldn’t resist taking more than a few selfies as the Hello Kitty images everywhere are so super cute!
There are a variety of artisanal ice creams to choose from and the star creation has to be “Beauty Elixir” which is the world’s first beauty ice cream as it contains collagen and glutathione, among other anti-aging and antioxidant ingredients. Whether you are male or female, you’d want to try this as who doesn’t want an ice cream which can help maintain youthful looks?
The range of Petits Gateaux at CDLC is simply too beautiful! With names like “Longevity”, “Da Bomb”, “Beauty & The Beast”, “Kitty White”, “Friendship Ring”, “Onde-Onde”, “Bumble Bee” and “Granny Smith”, you would be hard pressed to settle on just one. The ingredients in each amazing creation are premium ones. Prices average around RM25. I would choose the “Onde-Onde” as you get a few pieces which you can share with friends. However each one of these is so gorgeous that you won’t want to share them with anyone!
What we were really here for was CDLC’s collaboration with Sanrio in coming up with the most incredible Hello Kitty desserts and drinks.
“Sugar” is one of CDLC’s “Bloop! Bloop! Bloop!” famed beverages. It’s a refreshing concoction of fresh strawberries, fresh sweet basil leaves, freshly squeezed lemonade and raspberry sorbet. It has a slightly sourish taste.
Artisanal ice creams
Who knew Hello Kitty’s favourite food is her mum’s apple pie? I didn’t know Hello Kitty ate anything as she has no mouth. At CDLC, they have created the Apple Pie Crumble ice cream which I am sure Hello Kitty herself would approve. This is a delectable scoop of Madagascar vanilla swirled with fresh apple compote, cinnamon and crumble. It’s like eating apple pie, only much nicer because it comes in the form of ice cream.
In between waiting for the ice creams to arrive at my table, I couldn’t resist taking selfie after selfie which I don’t normally do (honest!) as the wall behind me had the most colourful and big image of Hello Kitty. The whole place had been transformed into Hello Kitty Land.
Being at CDLC made me happy because the ambiance was so fun and colourful. It’s the kind of place adults will feel like kids again. Lio Lim, MD of CDLC made everyone feel welcome. Kudos to her and her staff for their warm hospitality.
For anyone who loves the taste of strawberry, you will be very satisfied with Strawberry Fantasy which is an explosion of strawberry flavours – strawberry ice cream, homemade strawberry jam and fresh strawberry bits. I love strawberry and this ice cream was so full of strawberry flavours that it left me craving for another scoop.
Petits Gâteaux
Kitty White is just too cute to be consumed. That red bow is the crowning glory of Kitty White. Consisting of Madagascar vanilla ice cream, strawberry passion fruit sorbet, passion fruit crème, crumble and chocolate, it is not too sweet and has a slightly sourish taste because of the sorbet.
Although Friendship Ring doesn’t look as cute as Kitty White, this was my favourite. The combination of cream cheese ice cream, strawberry ice cream, strawberry jam, peach sorbet, citrus crumble and chocolate worked very well. Flavours were well balanced and complemented each other nicely. I felt this one had more depth of flavours than Kitty White and tasted richer. This is inspired by Hello Kitty’s favourite word, “friendship”.
