Celebrating Chap Goh Mei: NBBC’s Third KL Prosperity Walk Unites Bukit Bintang Communities

The Network of Bukit Bintang Communities (NBBC), in association with the BBKLCC Tourism Association are set to infuse the city centre with boundless energy as it gears up for the highly anticipated 2024 Chap Goh Mei celebrations.

Since its inception in 2022, the Kuala Lumpur Prosperity Walk has become an annual event that celebrates the rich tapestry that defines ‘the Greater Bukit Bintang’ as the nexus for FAME – acronym for Festivals, Art & Culture, Music & Dance, Electronic & etc., which contributes to the social-econommic development of the city.

This year, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur or DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) is playing a more defining role by including the Kuala Lumpur Prosperity Walk as a part of its greater Chinese New Year official activities.

Announced in a press conference a few days ago that was presided over by two of Kuala Lumpur City Advisory Board Members, Mr. Lai Chen Heng and Ms. Carmen Leong, both of whom have been appointed into the Kuala Lumpur Prosperity Walk organising committee as its patrons, the event will feature a 4.3-kilometre journey that will take slightly over an hour to complete.

Come Saturday, 24th February 2024, YBhg Datuk Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh, the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, will flag off the walk from Dataran Merdeka at 1715 hrs. The route will cover Bukt Bintang’s iconic landmarks, including Pasar Seni and the River of Life, GMBB Community Mall, Federal Hotel, Lot 10, Plaza Low Yat, Sungei Wang, Berjaya Times Square and end at Lalaport. Along the way, participants will also pass by other iconic locales, including Petaling Street and Jalan Alor. Dragon and lion dances are set to captivate the audience at flag-off, while colourful costumes and musical performances will accompany participants along the route, showcasing the dynamic essence of the city.

A second route is also available for those who prefer a shorter walk. Covering just 1.4 kilometres, this route would take about 30 minutes to complete. Starting at Pavilion KL fountain area, it will take participants past landmarks including Starhill, Fahrenheit 88 and Lot 10, merging with the main route at Menara Hai O on Jalan Bukit Bintang. The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture YB Tiong King Sing will celebrate the completion of the walk with the public at Lalaport.
