Toyota Yaris G Road Test Review by Dr Long SP
This red Yaris G is a short and sweet little thing – a solid B-segment hatch from UMW Toyota.
So my review on this hatchback version of the last-generation Vios will be likewise.
First, the good:
- Solid handling and chassis felt well put together, seriously!
- Quiet ride
- Frugal on petrol, proven 1.5 VVTi engine with adequate power
- Excellent city runabout, practical for young couples or young executives
- Established TOYOTA brand and after-sales support
- NVH is best in class (Driven and owned quite a few Hondas before)
- Nimble enough for tight spaces and easy to park
- Comfortable daily ride from its softly damped suspension
- Zippy in city traffic: CVT does a good job
- Very quiet engine during idling and casual cruising around
- Super cold air-conditioning system: DOUBLE thumbs up!!!
- Proven reliability AND durability (since 2020; and before in Vios)
- Predictably good resale value in years ahead
- Excellent paint finishing and door & bonnet/boot gaps consistency
- Sporty looking in Yaris G Limited trim
- Last but definitely not least, HUGE door pocket holder for BIG water bottles! A rarity in any car these days after my last VW Golf GTI and Polo 1.6 had them 🙂

The not so good:
- Weird sunlight reflection on the meter cluster housing cover when it’s sunny directly above
- Steering not adjustable for reach (telescopic)
- Drumming engine noise when stretched above 4500 rpm
- Seats a little small and lack thigh support
- Surround camera could use a higher definition update or upgrade

In conclusion, the Yaris G is a well-sized hatchback for those looking to upgrade from National makes. It still looks good, while being relevant in this day and age of newer HEVs, EVs and PHEVs. A simple yet fun, playful and dependable ICE car taking one from A to B, without fail, anytime and every time.
