NEW from Bobbi Brown is the Sheer Lip Color which Bobbi describes as “your mistake-proof, no mirror lipstick.” That’s just what I need since I don’t use a mirror to re-apply lipstick when I am out unless I happen to be in the public washroom or one of the beauty counters.
Four of the shades in this collection were created by Bobbi specially for Asian women and these shades are Rosy, Melba, Baby Pink and Tutu. During a recent trip to Asia, Bobbi met her local makeup artists and they requested new nectar, rose and pink shades that would prefectly complement Asian women’s skin tones.
When I received Black Plum for review, I was not that excited as I saw how dark the shade was. It looked like a dark chocolate colour, how on earth was I going to carry off that colour and step out of the house with that on my lips unless I was going to a Goth or Anime Convention? Oh, wait. This is a sheer lipstick so maybe it wasn’t going to be too dark?
To my surprise, this wasn’t in the least sheer. One swipe on my lips and the colour was a solid opaque. Wow! Excellent colour pay-off and second surprise, I liked the shade as it is a beautiful deep reddish plum. This is so much better than a saccharine pink.
The texture so is light yet it is creamy and feels moisturising. It’s obviously quite pigmented and has a glossy quality about it so much so that I feel applying gloss over it is unncessary. This is one beautiful lipstick which feels totally luxurious and when you know the ingredients that go into it, you will agree with me that it’s got to be hydrating – Shea Butter, Murumuru Butter and Apricot Kernel Oils. I haven’t been “wowed” by a lipstick for some time, this lipstick is incredibly smooth and long-lasting as I don’t need touch-ups unless I’ve had a meal.
