Now I Know The Best Sourdough Bread Is At Red Kettle

On my first visit to Jalan Bukit Desa 5, I did say it wasn’t easy to find a park because it was a weekday. I went there again yesterday after lunch and it was much easier to find a park as it was Sunday. The reason for this 2nd visit was two-fold. I wanted another slice of that delicious matcha crumble from Kews Patisserie and to check out Red Kettle which was closed during my 1st visit. Red Kettle is just a few doors away from Kews and between the 2 is Superfluous.

Upon entering Red Kettle, the first thing I saw was the artisan breads, mainly sourdough. There were loads of cookies too for the upcoming festive season. The sign for the baguette was there but alas, it was sold out! 2nd choice was the sourdough loaf @ RM10.90. That looked good & when ordered, I asked for it to be cut. They have a machine so it was cut in no time at all.

Well it’s not exactly RM10.90 as there’s service charge on top of that. When asked why there is a service charge since it’s just a takeaway and only buying bread, the cashier who is a foreigner couldn’t answer. When I takeaway the slice of Matcha Crumble from Kews Patisserie, the receipt states “Takeaway service charge 0”.

Anyway, I had the sourdough this morning and it’s superb. Not too sour, just a hint of sourness. I have had sourdough from other more well known bakeries which specialise in sourdough which taste overpoweringly sour and the texture is nowhere as good as Red Kettle’s version. Red Kettle’s sourdough is firm and so tasty that I could actually eat the whole loaf on my own in one sitting (if I was really famished). Ok, apart from the whacking of service charge, RM10.90 is a fair price because I have paid far more than that for some really substandard so-called sourdough from cafes which call themselves sourdough cafes. I am still working out whether I want to pay the service charge for takeaway bread as I don’t feel it’s justifiable.
