Almost 50% of women between the ages of 35 to 49 experience uterine fibroids, with 30% of them suffering from bothersome symptoms. Symptomatic uterine fibroids are the most common benign uterine tumor. Bothersome symptoms impede overall quality of life from sexual life, performance at work to relationships and family.

Zuellig Pharma has released Ulipristal Acetate 5mg (UPA 5mg), a first-in-class oral treatment for symptomatic uterine fibroids in Malaysia. UPA 5mg has been shown to rapidly control excessive menstrual bleeding within a week and progressively shrinks fibroids, with reductions in fibroid size maintained even after treatment.
UPA 5mg is a prescription-only medication and recommendations can be obtained from health care practitioners nationwide. The treatment consists of one tablet of UPA 5mg to be taken orally once daily for 3 months.[1]
