Aiming to end the year on an altruistic and healthy note, Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) is taking its ‘Tis the Season to Be Healthy’ Mobile Clinic to 18 locations around the Klang Valley in a month-long roadshow to provide free health checks and spread awareness of the importance of caring for one’s well-being. More than 780 adults and children received free health checks including glucose, cholesterol and vision tests as well as kids’ growth measurement and low-back flexibility test.

In the spirit of the festive season and as part of its community service efforts, the hospital also paid a visit to Fugee School, where the mobile clinic provided more health checks for close to 200 children, while SJMC staff handed out goodie bags with the help of the SJMC mascot, “Teddy Paws”.

SJMC treated the Fugee School children to fun gifts in line with its Grant A Child A Gift Programme and a lunch courtesy of the Ancasa Hotel.

With regular health check-ups not easily accessible by the more vulnerable communities during the pandemic, SJMC went the extra mile to ensure that the children’s vision and physical growth were assessed.

Trish Hogan, Chief Executive Officer of SJMC, said, “There is no greater happiness than in spreading festive joy to these children and ensuring they have a memorable year-end celebration, while we take care of their healthcare needs. Our mobile clinic initiative is part of our responsibility as medical professionals to help alleviate health concerns, including among the lower-income and disadvantaged communities. We are also grateful to our supportive partners who made the visit to Fugee School extra special.”

Fugee School is the educational arm under Fugee, a non-profit organization which provides education to refugee children in Malaysia.

Its founder Deborah Henry said, “We are most thankful to the entire team from SJMC for including us in their healthcare roadshow this year and for making the effort to spend quality time with the kids. The merry atmosphere was a much-needed change from their regular activities and a lovely way to end the year.”

Prior to the visit, the hospital, under its Grant A Child A Gift Programme, had invited 10 children from Fugee School to a luncheon at its premises where the kids were entertained by SJMC’s mascot, Teddy Paws and Santarina. Teddy Paws and Santarina then paid a visit to the paediatric ward to give out Christmas gifts to the patients.

SJMC’s mobile clinic and Teddy Paws also brought more festive cheer to three orphanages in the Klang Valley namely, Trinity Children Centre, Rumah Hope and Rumah Kids in collaboration with Jaya Grocer where essential items including dry food, toiletries and hand sanitizers were handed out to a total of 105 children.

The year-end initiative was carried out with the support of Etika Sdn Bhd which sponsored Goodday Milk and Anlene which contributed body mass index measurement and low-back flexibility tests as well as product samples for the mobile clinic.

The roadshow from November 18 to December 15, 2021 saw the SJMC mobile clinic truck making pit stops at Damansara Uptown, Sri Hartamas, Taipan USJ, Puchong Uncle Don, Kota Kemuning, Elmina Central Park, Taman Bukit Kiara, Shah Alam National Botanical Park and Taman Jaya among other places.

SJMC made certain that public safety was a priority during the roadshow, with strict respiratory etiquette maintained and full compliance to current standard operating procedures including physical distancing, use of face masks and sanitization.

The hospital has also introduced several health screening packages as part of its year-end campaign to promote better wellness and health. For more information, the public can visit www.subangjayamedicalcentre.com.
